Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Review
The 3-Minute Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Review
Xiaomi’s Redmi Note series is responsible for shaping the mid-tier smartphone market in countries such as India. These phones, including the iconic Redmi Note 3, Redmi Note 5, and Redmi Note 7 Pro, all raised the performance bar by introducing powerful SoCs at a reasonable cost.
The Redmi Note 7 has a characteristic glass front and back of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on either side. The phone has an incredible premium feel, for its price. The 6.3-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD display offers decent colors, and the brightness level is standard.
For basic phone operations, there are 3GB/4GB RAM with 32GB/64GB/128GB storage variants.
With a dewdrop notch, notification LED in the chin and a hybrid SIM slot. Excellent app and gaming performance is shouldered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 AIE SoC. While you can disable, a decent MIUI 10 experience is hampered many times by ads and promotions.
A rear 12 MP camera gives usable daylight shots, while AI makes colors appear unnatural. Video recording and low-light camera are not excellent, and the selfie camera takes decent shots.
You can go a full day on a single charge of the Redmi Note 7’s 4,000 mAh battery, and fast charging support is available. This is, however, only available as a separate purchase.
Features & Design: 4/5 | Performance: 4/5 | Value: 4/5 | Battery Life: 4/5
Xiaomi put in some good work around the Note 7 battery. The primary sensor is genius in itself. It is a princely 48 MP, rendering pictures at 12 MP unless override switch is activated in Pro Mode. The lower resolution enjoys pixel binning, which combines information from multiple pixels to create a better lower-resolution image.
The WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, 4G, and IR blaster are excellent for the Redmi Note 7’s price.
The smart assistant has not proved to be all its hyped up to be. This might be due to its late appearance in the game compared with Siri, Assistant, and Alexa. It really lacks on the capability side, even at launch. Samsung is investing heavily to woo developers, but the effects of that remain to be seen. Most users still prefer the assistant to become a more natural influence than to be thrust upon them.
Is it for you?
Impressive performance and performance life along with a great camera for an even more interesting price makes the Redmi Note 7 the perfect phone to invest in.
What we like
The Redmi Note 7 does great on several key fronts. It offers premium value with its solid build, great screen, smooth UI and a camera, and battery life that truly deliver.
The battery sits comfortably in the upper end of battery capacities for recent phones. It can last a full day with rigorous use. There is also an Adaptive Battery power-saving tool that limits battery usage for apps that are used infrequently.
What we don’t like
The slew of annoying ads can often mean an intrusive experience for users. Then there’s the inexplicable absence of NFC on a modern-day smartphone.
While the Note 7 captures atmospheric night shots in the dedicated Night mode, it struggles in low light with bright spots. The Portrait mode also does not allow for refocusing after a shot is taken and its bokeh effect is not as loud.
Should you buy it?
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 is a great device for its price. The phone excels in the areas of performance and battery life. The dual camera is armed with a 48 MP sensor and is somewhat impressive. Regardless of any weak spots, this is a phone that we definitely recommend you buy.
