TP-LINK Archer C8 Review
The TP-LINK Archer C8 is your average router that is speedy and effective but still affordable. If you are in the market for an inexpensive router that will get the job done, then the TP-LINK Archer C8 is a suitable choice. It doesn’t come with many fancy extras but it does provide you with a good experience. I learned that the router is one of the most affordable on the market but still provides what many people would call an average browsing experience. Here’s what this router can do for you.
If you need heavy bandwidth may it be in the office or at home, then you can rely on this router. It has reached speeds of up to 1.3Gbps when on the 5GHz band and up to 450 Megabytes per second on the 2.4 GHz band. Its 3 dual band antennas which fortunately are detachable for proper handling come in handy when you require extensive wireless coverage in various directions. The TP-LINK Archer C8 comes with an 800Mhz dual core processor, a USB 2.0 port and USB 3.0 port and of course the 4GB Ethernet ports.
Although the TP-LINK Archer C8 is large, it’s still aesthetically appealing. Its huge size may be a potential deal breaker but if performance and budget are your top priorities, then its size won’t come in the way when purchasing one. Although it’s huge, it’s surprisingly light. You can mount the C8 on the wall as it comes with some keyhole slots on its belly. Wall mounting can be a difficult task as well as the wires are at the back of the router but it’s something that you can overcome easily.
Once you get the router out of box, all you need is to run the set up Wizard provided by the manufacturer on a CD and you are good to go. Most people find it even easier to download the readily available software on the company’s official website.
It’s easy to configure the router as there is an easy to use admin panel. However, some people still have issues with the Admin panel. The Wireless network comes pre-configured and it’s a bit of a task to change the configurations. The manufacture uses WPA encryption but you can still set the connections to ‘Open’ if need be although WEP or WPA encryption is encouraged.
As you would expect, there are a few areas where some customers have had to complain about. Mostly people get lost in the Admin panel as the interface is not really easy to navigate. I think the manufacturer could use some work on the admin interface to make it better. Moreover, some people complained of its huge size. Well, many people have become used to small gadgets and would love to see a smaller router. However, the router is very light and can be moved around easily and its size is something that you can live with. All in all, this router doesn’t come with all the desired features and it’s certainly not the fastest that you will come across, but it’s a good value for your money if you compare the price and its performance.
