Thrustmaster T80 Review
Fans of racing games who want more than just a mere keyboard experience, but who aren’t ready to invest seriously in a racing wheel that might not live up to expectations, the Thrustmaster T80 Racing Wheel is a perfect choice. Regardless of the wheel you decide to purchase, the transition to it from a keyboard will take a while, but Thrustmaster does everything it can in order to make this as smooth as possible. There are some features that you will surely enjoy, and there are others which might lack in depth. However, if this is the first wheel you purchase, it’s a perfect starting point.
Thrustmaster is well known in the industry for creating top quality gaming accessories, including joysticks and steering wheels. The Thrustmaster T80 is just another fine example of this quality threshold, and it’s perfect if you’re looking to enhance your game playing experience on a PlayStation console. Indeed, this steering wheel has been specially designed for PlayStation consoles, PS3 and PS4 models, to be more specific. Given the games available on this platform, such as the well-known Gran Turismo series, you can be sure there’s a lot to play right now and even more to come in the future.
The rotation of this wheel works only until 240 degrees, so it’s not what you’d expect from a full-fledged racing wheel designed for top simulations. Of course, if you want a simpler gaming experience, you can get used to this feature quite fast and you can put it to work. Unfortunately, there is no force-feedback available when it comes to the Thrustmaster T80 Racing Wheel, but you can get past this issue, as well, if you’re not looking to spend at least 3x the needed money for this peripheral. Instead of force feedback, you get to experience the Bungee Cord feature that provides linear resistance for the wheel when you use it.
The pedals are not made out of metal, but out of plastic. However, this shouldn’t dismiss them as low quality. The quality of the build is rather high and the pedals seem really sturdy. Moreover, they are wide enough to easily accommodate your feet and allow you to easily press each one whenever you need them. The Thrustmaster T80 Racing Wheel features only the brake and gas pedals, with no clutch. The pedals can be adjusted to be more or less resistant, and what’s even better is that you can individually adjust the settings for each one.
Depending on the game you decide to play, you might have to fine tune the settings of the wheel in order to make it more responsive. For example, Gran Turismo requires you to crank up the sensitivity to the maximum in order to fully enjoy the wheel. Formula One games will perform in the same manner, but if you switch to a game like Grid Autosport, you will quickly find out the settings need to be fine-tuned. However, aside from these preferences, there is no need to perform any kind of setup when connecting the Thrustmaster T80 Racing Wheel to a PlayStation 4.
