Sony DualShock 4 Controller Review
Nothing ruins a gaming experience more than a controller that does not at all make you feel that you are in control. Sadly, there are more than a few of those, and we’re glad that things seem to be changing, and we could thank Sony for that. The Sony DualShock 4 Controller is definitely an improved version of their previous controller, the acclaimed DualShock 3.
With the Sony DualShock 4 Controller, gamers get to enjoy complete control, without having to relearn everything from scratch. It still has the familiar controls that PlayStation users have gotten used to over the years, but it also managed to integrate new features to keep it modern, fresh, and more interactive.
The dual analog sticks and trigger buttons show much improvement, giving gamers a greater sense of control over the game. The clickable touch pad is very responsive and sensitive, opening up even more possibilities while playing. Many would agree that this is the best addition to the Sony DualShock 4 Controller. The fact that the touch pad also features a large size is very welcome, indeed.
Of course, control would be useless if handling entails a lot of discomfort. Fortunately, the Sony DualShock 4 Controller takes that factor into consideration. It does not weigh too much, and it has an elongated grip, which offers flexibility for users with varying hand sizes. The trigger buttons on the back of the controller are shaped in such a way that the hands and fingers won’t feel strained even after prolonged use. There is also a subtle curve between the trigger and the shoulder button, where the user can rest his finger for a bit.
Sony’s additions to the Sony DualShock 4 Controller are also worth mentioning. There is the built-in speaker which, although it does not produce spectacular sound, certainly adds to the experience. There is also a lightbar added at the back of the controller, which truly comes in handy when playing games that make use of the PlayStation Camera. It also acts as an indicator of battery life, giving warning when it needs to be recharged.
Compared to the DualShock 3, it appears as though the battery life of the Sony DualShock 4 Controller is slightly shorter, despite claims by Sony that they are the same. This is probably a little due to the lightbar, which remains on unless the controller is turned off and not in use. Gamers may now also broadcast their gameplay live, and save gameplay clips and upload them afterwards. This is thanks to the added Share button, which taps into the social media aspect. Instead of the usual Start/Select buttons found in previous versions, there is now the Share button, which is hands-down a much better option.
