Sennheiser HD 201 Review

  • 4.0 / 5
    • The good:
comfortable to wear, decent sound, good price
    • The bad:
long headphone cable, volume needs more power
Sound is everything and the Sennheiser HD 201 fits that requirement. It looks like a toy to some due to its design it is in reality a pretty good headphone with more than decent sound quality that is rich and powerful and comfortable to wear. The Sennheiser HD 201 is good enough that you only hear what you want to listen to without picking up outside noises mostly. It may not look like it but the Sennheiser HD 201 is designed for the professional DJ. So you might be thinking that since it is for a professional DJ, the Sennheiser HD 201 is expensive and really reproduces really amazing sounds. First, the Sennheiser HD 201 is not that expensive comparing to other headphones in the market and the sound quality and reproduction is really good. Not perfect but it does more than enough to generate an enjoyable listening experience. The design of the Sennheiser HD 201 is not that really funky or crazy. It is a closed headphone that has a circumaural design, includes a ¼ gold plated adapter, swivel design and ear pads that are replaceable and is made out of foam padding and covered in leatherette. The earcups can be tilted. The Sennheiser HD 201 is lightweight to be placed on your head. The Sennheiser HD 201 as stated earlier is a closed headphone but that doesn’t mean that when using this, you feel isolated from the world. Yes, you can hear what you want to hear, but, there are instances that outside noide can be heard. It is not by much but it is there. Seinnheiser is known to be a top notch manufacturer of headphones and the Sennheiser HD 201 does not disappoint. Sounds reproduced by the Sennheiser HD 201 are good, crisp and full. It doesn’t take a lot of power to hear the sounds. However, bass can be a problem as if you want more power to your base, more power must be given. Midrange levels are natural sounding yet there are times that the sounds and vocals are uneven. It is a hit and miss on these aspect. The Sennheiser HD 201 also has a low sensitivity when it comes to volume that is inconsistent depending on the songs as they all are not the same when it comes to loudness and volume. You need to crank up that volume if you want to hear the audio or song at its full glory. As a closed headphone, the Sennheiser HD 201 is as decent as they come. It is what you would expect for something of this caliber in its price range. What matter is that it delivers in terms of clear and quality sound reproduction and that it is comfortable for extended wear and use. But the Sennheiser HD 201 is not really suited for outside use as outside noise may dampen your listening mood a little bit. Overall, the Sennheiser HD 201 is still a nice headphone to use and own.
