SanDisk Extreme Pro 240GB Review

SanDisk really did a great job when they introduced one of the best SSDs on the market today, the SanDisk Extreme Pro 240GB. This SSD wins on various levels. When it comes to value, performance and warranty, no other SSD on sale today beats the SanDisk Extreme Pro 240GB. Although the Extreme Pro comes in different capacities such as 480GB and 960GB, the 250GB one is the best value as it’s priced appropriately considering its high performance. Anyone looking for a powerful SSD for their gaming or heavy computer use shouldn’t look any further.

SanDisk Extreme Pro 240GB has to be the King of all the SSDs available today in terms of performance. If this doesn’t impress you, then you might consider enjoying a 10 year warranty. This is the longest warranty ever heard of in the SSD world. Whether you need to upgrade your old SSD or need one to enhance your PC’s performance, this is the real deal. If you have been waiting for the perfect SSD, you might want to consider the SanDisk Extreme Pro 240GB as you won’t be seeing anything better than this in the near future. Furthermore, the pricing is really appealing for a high performing SSD.

The Extreme Pro resembles previous San Disk generations i.e the Extreme and Extreme II. It’s compatible with SATA 3, has a standard size of around 2.5 inches and only 7mm thick. It’s actually not different from your average SSD until you get to the inside. Some notable upgrades include nCache Pro Technology (the first one to feature the technology) and a new NAND flash memory. The new technology ensures you enjoy consistent performance for a long time even with low latency. It also ensures that the SSD consumes low energy.

Extreme Pro is believed to have an endurance of over 80TB. However, this couldn’t be verified as it needs time. This means that you can write 20GB per day for over 11 years without running out of P/E cycles. Most PC owners rarely reach half of the 20TB mentioned per day. Nevertheless, a 10 year warranty should make you feel better. According to SanDisk, the SSD was intentionally created for gamers and some professionals who require that extra power to go about their business such as graphics design. They claim that the drive’ performance is consistent even after being used for a long time. Again, we can only rely on the warranty here as the product is barely 1 year old.

The only setback that could affect some business users is the lack of self-encryption support. However, this doesn’t come as a surprise as many SSDs made for home use don’t have this feature. The pricing might not be the lowest but definitely isn’t the highest. So with the extended warranty and great performance, this SSD should be on your cart in the next shopping spree. The Extreme Pro is a sign that SSDs aren’t going anywhere yet so you can upgrade your laptop or computer before we step into the next generation PCIe drives which Apple are already using in Mac Pro and MacBook Pro.

  • The Good :
    Good performance, Extended warranty, Affordable
  • The Bad :
    Doesn’t support self-encryption
