Samsung SSD 850 Evo 1TB MZ-75E1T0BW Review
Samsung being an industry leader in the SSD market couldn’t have produced a better alternative to the Samsung SSD 840 Evo than the Samsung SSD 850 Evo 1TB MZ-75E1T0BW. It’s a good SSD that surpasses our expectation in various aspects. I think you might already know that Samsung has two of its own lines of these SSD’s competing against each other. There is the PRO line and the EVO line. The characteristics seem to be the same but there are changes here and there that make each one of them unique.
There are many highlights in this product that the competition can only dream of. The 850 EVO has set new standards that its competition will be playing catch-up on. The warranty, endurance and performance of the 850 Evo sets it apart from its competition. In fact, it can only compete with flagship models from other manufacturers. There are other features such as the DEVSLP, disk encryption and of course the low power state that you shouldn’t ignore. The low power state boosts your notebooks battery life to a certain percentage. While some products might come with these technologies, only limited products that compete directly with the 850 Evo have this privilege.
The 850 Evo 1 TB and 500GB models have an endurance rating of 150 TBW. This endurance rating can only be compared to the 850 Pro series. This means that these two products are on a league of their own when it comes to endurance. Although the 850 Evo was originally meant for the mainstream SSD market, it has some characteristics that qualify it to be a premium SSD. Other than the qualities mentioned above, expect it to perform very well against some of the best SSD’s on the market today. This is only when the rapid mode is off, if the rapid mode is enabled, the performance levels can only be compared to the SSD’s on the market that use this technology.
Although Samsung suggests speeds of 500 MB/s in write and read speeds, the 850 Evo pushes extra. I learned this through the syntactic tests and this is a huge plus given that the Samsung SSD 850 Evo 1TB MZ-75E1T0BW uses the same controller as the 850 Pro and the 840 Evo.
It’s easy to note the difference between the two controllers in terms of performance. One offers low latency while the other has a lower power consumption rate.
At the end of the day you have to make a choice. The Samsung SSD 850 Evo 1TB MZ-75E1T0BW is one of the best products on the market right now. Samsung decided to change from TLC NAND flash to 3-D V-NAND which takes care of some issues with the TLC NAND. This is a good move a few steps ahead of the competition. Performance wise the SSD is perfect. However, you will only notice this when the drive is put under high pressure. For light workloads, this is the best SSD you would find on the market today at that price range.
