Samsung Galaxy Z Flip Review
The 3-Minute Samsung Foldable Smartphone Review
The Galaxy that Folds Up to Fit in Your Pocket
By Rachel Hutson | 28 February 2020
Samsung has released the Galaxy Z Flip this month as the new foldable pocket smartphone, the successor to the Galaxy Fold from last year. The Z Flip resembles a pocket mirror due to its compact size and fold-up screen.
Made with an aluminum frame, Gorilla Glass 6 back and glass front. Offered in a wide range of colors: Black, Purple, Gold, and the Thom Browne Edition.
The Screen is a foldable dynamic AMOLED 6.7-inch touchscreen and has a small 1-inch front notification screen. The operating system is Android 10 with Samsung one- UI-2 overlay. The chipset is a Snapdragon 855+, 8GB RAM, and 256GB internal memory with no option to expand.
The main cameras are a dual 12MP wide, 12MP ultrawide, and a 10MP selfie camera. AKG tuned high-quality audio single loudspeaker. The battery is 3300mAh with 15W fast charge and wireless charging.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is a novelty as they are returning to the flip phone era. The appeal of this device is its size as it folds up to just 3-inches and only weighs 183g making it compact and light in your pocket or hand when.
The hinge has been a new step forward in foldable devices as it can hold at multiple angles, and there are brushes that are placed inside to keep dust out—something you can expect from this premium brand.
Samsung still needs to refine some of the features with this device, such as the feel of this device is quite slippery, making it easy to drop. Opening and closing can be done one-handed but would suggest against it as you may damage the soft screen with your nails or misplaced finger and ups the chance of dropping it.
The small front screen on the Z Flip allows for a few small notifications, the screen timeout is quite short, and they left out the settings to change this.
With the focus mainly falling on the design, the Z Flip lacks the high-quality cameras seen on the other flagships such as the Galaxy S20 range.
Is it for you?
The Galaxy Z Flip is very compact when closed, and this is appealing as it doesn’t leave you with large, bulky device weighing down your pocket but still offers you a large screen to work with.
What we like
The performance of this device does not, by any means lack as the snapdragon 855+ chipset, and 8GB RAM performs well when multitasking.
The screen is foldable glass, and they achieved this by making it only 30 microns thick, and to protect it, they fitted a plastic cover over it. This smartphone is an engineering marvel.
What we don’t like
Sadly, choosing the glass finish on this phone makes it a fingerprint magnet, leaving you with a choice of either going with a cover or spending a lot of time cleaning this device.
With AKG teaming up on this device, I would have thought they would have fitted duel loudspeakers, but they just settled with one.
Should you buy it?
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is a statement maker and stands out from the smartphone of this era. Technology has advanced so far that we can now fold a screen. Justifying this high price depends on your functionality of the device.
