Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 Review
The 3-Minute Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 Review
Features & Design: 3.5/5 | Performance: 4/5 | Value: 3.5/5 | Battery Life: 3/5
It is the latest smartwatch from Samsung and an upgraded version of Galaxy Watch Active that was released earlier this year. It comes in two sizes; 40mm and 44mm. Active 2 watch is available in Bluetooth and LTE versions. You can choose from aluminum and stainless steel design. The watch is 5ATM + IP68 water and dust-proof making it safe to use for water-related workouts. Reading indoors and outdoors is easy with bright circular super AMOLED full-color display with 360 x 360 resolution.
The watch comes with a rotating touch-sensitive bezel which allows easy scrolling through apps, texts, notifications, and screens. Hardware has an upgraded heart rate sensor and accelerometer. Also, Active 2 can record your ECG. An interesting feature is that you can match a watch face with your outfit by creating a personalized watch face.
The automatic tracking features 7 different workout forms including swimming, rowing, cycling, etc. LTE models allow you to leave your phones home yet receive texts, calls, notifications and stream music via LTE-powered life assistant.
The fall detection and ECG sensor features are not functional until Samsung receives FDA approval. Now that’s a real bummer!
Is it for you?
Well, this depends on your fitness goals and usage. If you've used a Galaxy watch before, then this will look very familiar to it having the same interface, ties, and app menus. But Samsung has built some new integrations; there is better Bixby support with an active and paste workout for you. It can control smart things gadgets and Spotify integration built into it including offline playback which is super useful. The rotating bezel makes it very easy for you to control than other smartwatches in the market.
What we like:
What we liked about this new version that Samsung has brought back the sensitive rotating round bezel with new touchscreen AMOLED. Moreover, those with larger wrists can go for 44 mm as this smartwatch comes in two options; 40mm with 1.2 inches screen and 44mm with 1.4 inches screen. The wrist bottom has 8 photodiodes which give more precise and accurate heart rate monitoring. Moreover, the appreciable feature of Galaxy Watch Active 2 is the in-built GPS which other smartwatches lack. Talking about the sensors, it features gyroscope, barometer and ambient light to automatically adjust the brightness. Having an accelerometer which can measure the force of about 32g offers the fall detection feature. We appreciate the introduction of electrocardiogram sensor in Samsung smartwatches with this version. The RAM for LTE models has upgraded to 1.5GB.
Besides, you'll be able to get it in a bunch of different colors black, gold, silver and many strap options like leather, rubber, etc. It has a new ability to watch YouTube videos on your wrist with built-in YouTube App.
What we don’t like:
Taking specs into account, they are almost same as its predecessor; using a similar
Exynos 9110 Dual-core 1.15GHz and 4GB storages. In terms of battery life, the LTE model offers 1-2 days which is not long-lasting.
Should you buy it?
If this is your first time buying a fitness tracker smartwatch, then Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 won't disappoint you with its heart rate tracking, sleep tracking, 30+ exercise modes, and GPS. However, if you have experience of using a smartwatch, then the only upgrade you get is ECG sensor, LTE version and rotating touch bezel.
