Samsung have pulled out all the stops with this plus sized device, giving users a superior screen area of 6.2” inches to enjoy content like movies and pictures, while cramming in a 3200mAh battery. The cameras are also top notch, providing excellent focus and zooming capabilities.
As is the case with the Galaxy S9, the pricing on this device is quite high. This places it in somewhat of a niche market, meaning that only fans of bigger screens and top of the line cameras will see maximum benefit from the capital outlay of this Android device.
Is it for you?
If you are a fan of this size device and haven’t upgraded in a few product cycles, then this could be a good choice for you. The price can be off putting for some people, however.
Meet the Galaxy S9 Plus
This is a premium flagship plus sized smart phone, with plenty of great hardware specs to go around. It features a 3500mAh battery, a Snapdragon 845 CPU, 6GB of RAM, and either 64GB or 128GB of internal storage, depending on the global region. The cameras on this device are dual rear facing 12MP, and a front facing 8MP camera to keep your selfies game on point.
What we like
There is no denying the benefits of the Samsung S9+’s extra-large 6.2” inch screen, which does an excellent job of displaying content in daylight conditions with little problems. The speakers are now stereo, giving audio applications sans earphones a distinct high quality sound.
The inner workings of this device are also exceptional, offering 2GB more RAM than the standard Galaxy S9, giving users of the S9+ 6GB of RAM. This takes the multitasking capabilities of this device to the next level.
The S9+ is no slouch in the battery department either, and as well as offering superior running times for daily usage, there are other nifty features such as wireless charging and a wired fast charge option as well, giving maximum charging capacity in a short amount of time, great for instances where you need to charge your phone but can’t hang around waiting for it to finish.
What we don’t like
Unfortunately, as with most flagship devices, the cost versus performance needs to be factored into the equation. The S9 is an expensive handset, and the S9+ carries an even heftier price tag, although granted, it offers more in terms of system performance and screen size, as well as battery capacity.
As this is a premium flagship device from one of the world leaders in consumer electronics, you will undoubtable get your money’s worth with this device. The only exception would be for users that picked up an S8+ last year, as there is really not much to differentiate last year’s plus sized model and this one.
Should you buy it?
If you are an Android fan with a penchant for high quality dual cameras and an extra-large screen, coupled with the premium finish that invariably accompanies these high-end Samsung devices, then yes, this phone is probably for you. Users that bought last year’s S8 or S8+ will find it difficult to justify, however, so if you are one of those then consider waiting for the impending Android software update.
