Samsung Galaxy S5 16GB Review
The 16GB version of the Samsung Galaxy S5 is one of the newer phones to join the Samsung family. Following the Samsung Galaxy S4, the S5 has actually downgraded some of its ancestor’s features in exchange for some needed quality improvements.
Although the Samsung Galaxy S5 (16GB) is not large enough to be considered a “phablet”(phone/tablet), the device surely exceeds the average cell phone size. With dimensions of 5.6x2.9x 0.31, the 16GB Galaxy S5 is definitely on the bulkier side and a bit difficult to use in one hand. The S5 also weighs around 5.1 ounces making it a fairly dense device. With a 5.1 - inch screen, the 16GB Galaxy S5 looks and feels like a high quality device. With a soft-finish and sturdy plastic-like material, the S5 feels much sturdier when in hand. The back of the 16GB S5 is removable, which is a feature we are seeing less and less of now-a-days so it is nice to see that Samsung is sticking to their roots on this one. The removable back allows for quick and easy battery changes or replacement panels.
The display on the 16GB, Galaxy S5 is rather impressive as compared to several of its competitors. With a 1080p, Super Amoled screen, the S5 provides intense clarity and quality of all videos and images. When capturing videos and images outdoors, the S5 provides an Adapt Display Mode, which is designed to automatically adjust to the appropriate settings to insure high quality sharpness and color.
The buttons of the 16GB, Galaxy S5 are just as functional at the S4, if not more actually. For starters, the Home button of the S5 can now be used for two other features: accessing Google Now with a long press and accessing the S Voice function with two short clicks. The power button is on the right side of the device, while the volume rocker is on the left. Although rather unusual, this is actually a well-planned feature as this prevents any accidental volume adjustments or powering problems.
Samsung has upgraded from the S4 by making the new Galaxy S5 (16GB) water resistant. This device can withstand being submerged 1 meter deep in water for up to 30 minutes. Although this does not allow for underwater picture taking or swimming with the device, it does insure that no severe damage will come to the S5 if you drop in the pool or get caught in a thunderstorm. The battery life of the 16 GB, S5 is impressive as well. With a 2,800 mAH battery, this device can last the average user nearly 16 hours before needing to be recharged. During a battery life test, the Galaxy S5 lasted 9 hours and 42 minutes while continuously surfing the web before needing to be recharged. This test was run through 4G LTE and thirty percent screen brightness. An impressive feature.
