The 3-Minute Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro Review
Looks Good, Feels Good
By Zach Riley | February 9, 2018
Features & Design: 4/5 ● Performance: 2.5/5 ● Value: 3/5 ● Battery 4/5
The Samsung J7 Pro is dressed to impress, with a beautiful metal design, gorgeous display, and a battery that will last all day — all at an affordable price.
Unfortunately, the Samsung J7 Pro is hampered by an older processor. The camera also isn’t as impressive as comparable models, and the micro USB port is outdated tech.
Is it for you?
If you’re looking for a solid mid-range phone that is a significant upgrade over its predecessor, the Samsung J7 Pro may be right for you. The phone is certainly held back by a last generation processor, but it’s still a reasonable choice for the price.
Meet the Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro
With previous “J” series models, the phones have certainly felt as cheap as their price tag. The Samsung J7 Pro is a serious upgrade over previous models, and offers a premium metal build that feels much more high-end than its predecessors’ plastic construction. Overall, it appears as if Samsung is committed to upping the quality of their mid-range phones. While you won’t find the same performance in the Samsung J7 Pro as with a luxury flagship, it’s certainly a competitive budget phone.
What we like
There’s a good amount to like about the Samsung J7 Pro. As mentioned above, the biggest change over the previous iteration is the move to an aluminum build versus a plastic construction. The phone feels much more premium, which is a nice touch in an inexpensive phone.
The battery life is also worthy of note, as the phone will last all day on a single charge. With a beautiful 5.5-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display, the image quality is seriously impressive considering the price range.
The addition of Samsung Pay is a nice touch, as it hasn’t been present on previous models. Previously reserved for high-end models, the ability to easily pay for goods with this convenient feature is a notable addition to a more affordable handset.
What we don’t like
Unfortunately, there are some major drawbacks to the Samsung J7 Pro. The most glaring issue is the older processor. While the rest of the phone takes noticeable steps to improve upon the predecessor, the chip doesn’t make any significant improvements. With stuttering and slow performance even in normal use, the fact that the phone struggles with some basic tasks is truly a major detractor.
The camera is also a lower quality than that of competitors, and the micro-USB port is an older technology that falls behind when compared to the new USB-C.
Should you buy it?
While the Samsung J7 Pro has a beautiful design, a great display, and an impressive battery life, it’s truly held back by an older processor. With other phones available for the price that perform more admirably, it’s difficult to recommend the Samsung J7 Pro.
If you’re using an older model and looking for an upgrade, you’ll likely be pleased with the performance of the J7 Pro. However, there are certainly better options out there for the same price or cheaper.
