The 3-Minute Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime Review
A phone that won't convert anyone

Features & Design: 3.5/5 ● Performance: 4/5 ● Value: 3/5
The Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime is a decent mid-range smartphone. With a solid, comfortable build and impressive performance, it should meet the needs of everyone except the most demanding users.
The Galaxy J7 Prime is not without shortcomings. The design looks like pretty much every other mid-range Samsung phone, the camera is poor, it comes with way too much bloatware, and it’s relatively expensive.
Is it for you?
The Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime offers reliable mid-range performance but lacks the design or camera you’d find on higher-end devices. Still, it’s a solid buy and should do the job for the majority of users. Just keep in mind, there are a lot of phones that offer better performance in this price range.
“Unless you’re really invested in Samsung, there are better options available for the price of the J7 Prime.”
Meet the Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime
After the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco last year, all eyes were on Samsung as they looked to redeem themselves. They had a lot to prove with their new flagships but, fortunately, their mid-range phones were released without any issues. As one of these mid-range devices, the Galaxy J7 Prime gives you solid performance, impressive battery life, and Samsung’s take on the Android operating system.
What we like
When buying a mid-range phone, it’s fair to be concerned about how well made it is. Fortunately, that doesn’t appear to be an issue with the Galaxy J7 Prime. The design, while wholly unoriginal, is sturdy.
Another aspect to praise is the software. Samsung’s customization of the stock Android software makes the phone smooth and responsive while taking full advantage of the solid hardware that the phone has packed inside. The J7 Prime’s battery life is also impressive. Generally speaking, it should last you most of the day on a single charge. The inclusion of a microSD slot, which allows for some extra storage space, rounds out the phone’s best features.
What we don’t like
A major drawback to the Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime is its price. As far as mid-range phones go, it’s relatively expensive. Being a Samsung-branded phone isn’t enough to warrant its cost. There are far more impressive phones available in this price range if you’re willing to look at different manufacturers.
The design of the phone, while sturdy, is uninspired and boring. It’s largely the same as every other mid-range Samsung phone and gives off a cheap, generic look. The phone also includes default Samsung Apps. While some people may see them as useful, the majority of us will look at them as useless bloatware.
Samsung has always struggled in putting a quality camera in any of its affordable mid-range phones. That struggle is also apparent here. The J7 Prime’s camera doesn't do well in low light conditions and, generally speaking, you can tell that its photos are taken by a mid-range phone.
Should you buy it?
Unless you’re really invested in Samsung, there are better options available for the price of the J7 Prime. There’s a lot that this phone does right. It might even be a good buy at a lower price point. However, it’s currently just too expensive to recommend. If you’re really set on a Samsung, you should be happy with it. If you’re open to other brands, you should really take a look at the other phones in its price range before buying.
