Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017) Review

The 3-Minute Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017) Review

Beautiful on the outside

The Specifics:

Features & Design: 4/5 ● Performance: 3.5/5 ● Value: 3.5/5

The Best:

The Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017) is a solid mid-range phone with a beautiful design that will remind you of the Galaxy S7. It offers decent performance, good battery life, and water and dust resistance at an affordable price, acting as a more accessible alternative to Samsung’s high-end flagship phones.

The Bugs:

The Galaxy A3 definitely has its issues, most noticeably the low-resolution display that fails to live up to our expectations of the Galaxy family. An unimpressive camera and hard-to-use software also come up as other problems.

Is it for you?

The Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017) is a beautiful looking phone that will give you decent performance at a more wallet-friendly price. If you’re in the market for a phone that looks high-end but won’t cost you a fortune, the Galaxy A3 is worth a look.

“If you’re in the market for a mid-range phone that looks like a much more expensive phone and will give you decent performance, the Samsung Galaxy A3 is probably right up your alley.”

Meet the Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017)

This year’s Samsung Galaxy A3 is the latest successor to the original model that was released back in 2015. Like the Galaxy A5 and A7 (that were also released this year), it aims to improve upon its predecessor by taking advantage of the latest tech. While Samsung’s Galaxy Note line was the subject of intense criticism and scrutiny after the Note 7 fiasco, the company’s mid-range phones have continued to perform well. The A3 was released to relatively positive reviews with a lot of praise directed towards the phone’s beautiful design.

What we like

There’s a lot to like about the Samsung Galaxy A3. One of the most obvious things that make it stand out is its beautiful design. Borrowing a lot of design elements from its high-end cousin, it feels like a premium flagship phone despite its budget price. It doesn’t just look good, it’s also water and dust resistant which gives it some added durability. For those looking for a taste of luxury without wanting to stomach the huge price tag, the Galaxy A3 delivers decent performance and looks good while doing it.

The battery is also worth noting, it has the capacity to last for more than a day on a single charge. If you need your phone to get through the day, the Galaxy A3 may be a good fit for you.

What we don’t like

There are a few drawbacks to this phone. Tthe most notable of them is the display. The non-HD resolution just doesn’t cut it when you compare it to more impressive HD screens. The phone has the beautiful design of the Galaxy S7 but lacks the signature screen that makes that phone so great.

Samsung’s modified Android operating system is pretty easy to use, but it also comes packed with bloatware that slows down what would otherwise be a very responsive phone.

Lastly, the camera is another knock against it. Samsung has a history of struggling to give its mid-range models decent cameras and the Galaxy A3 is no exception. Its camera gets the job done, but the photos aren’t as nice as those from high-end smartphones.

Should you buy it?

If you’re in the market for a mid-range phone that looks like a much more expensive phone and will give you decent performance, the Samsung Galaxy A3 is probably right up your alley. While the phone is not without its drawbacks, those who are able to look past a mediocre screen and unimpressive camera will probably be happy with Samsung’s 2017 revamp of the Galaxy A3. That said, there are other phones in its price range that offer far better value, so take a look around. Still, if you’re looking for a reliable, beautiful but affordable phone, you won’t be disappointed with the Galaxy A3.
