High end gaming is a niche market on smart devices, and king among them is Razer. Razer has traditionally operated in the gaming accessory space, so seeing them come out with a gaming smart phone was quite a nice surprise for fans.
This is a phone that has been designed with gaming in mind, and nothing else. This might detract from your overall experience as a normal smart phone user, so if you plan on buying this phone then be prepared. The other notable issue with the current software build is that the camera seems to have a bit of lag on it, which makes it a bit difficult to snap quick pics with.
Is it for you?
If you are a gamer at heart, and you absolutely have to have the best Android gaming experience with you at all times, then this is the phone for you. Sure, there are other gaming smartphones out there, but none of them are Razer phones.
Meet the Razer Phone 2
The Razer Phone 2 is a gaming phone that features an all glass design with intense hardware specifications and blistering performance. It runs an incredible 120Hz screen for super smooth and fluid graphics thanks to superior refresh rates, and has a surprisingly decent battery to keep you going throughout your gaming sessions. The sound quality is great, and the speakers reproduce sound beautifully. Razer has also tweaked the software, giving the user the impression that they are indeed using a high end gaming phone.
What we like
Razer Phone 2 is made for gaming, from the hardware specifications to the square aesthetics that tell you that there is no need for glossy finishes or dynamic colors. The screen is a great size for gaming, and the overall size of the unit is comfortable to use for long periods.
The operating speeds are great, thanks to the CPU, which is an octa-core that is clocked at an impressive 2.8GHz, and RAM is at a whopping 8GB. The screen resolution is also in the gaming sweet spot, at 1440x2560.
Storage is ample with 64GB, although some people might prefer more than that if they plan on installing multiple games, or taking their music and movie libraries with them. The Android OS is solid, but it is not Android Pie, yet.
What we don’t like
The camera is probably the weakest link in this package. It is only a single facing 12MP camera on the back, and a selfie camera that is only 8MP. It could have also done with a little bit more in the functionality department as it only has a single SIM slot for connectivity. This isn’t a deal breaker, but dual sims are getting more common with big name manufacturers.
Should you buy it?
Razer Phone 2 is a phone that only makes sense if you are into benchmarking and gaming activities, so don’t expect too much else from this particular product. The battery is as 4000mAh, which is a good thing because the faster internal components can drain a smaller battery much quicker. Android supports a huge library of games, so users will never be short of options to try out on this impressive device.
