QNAP TS-453 Pro Review
The QNAP TS-453 Pro is a Taiwanese NAS (Network-attached storage) that has maintained its design for several years, but with minor tweaks each time a new version comes out. The sturdy feel and well – put together design gives the storage unit bonus points in the competition.
Whether you are a college student, business owner, or just someone who would like to keep your photos and documents backed up, a network-attached storage server will come in handy! Unlike most storage servers, an NAS server can store any file from any device as long as it is hooked up the same network. This means that you (the user) can store photos/files from your laptop, phone, iPad, etc.
There are 4 drives trays located on the front of the device, all of which are lockable. The trays do not come with any drives, but they have been designed to fit four 3.5” or 2” SATA HDDs or SSDs. Located next to these drive trays is the power button and a single USB 3.0 port. A LCD screen display is also available for quick status reports.
On the back of the QNAP TS-453 Pro is where all of the technical implications take place. There are 4 Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports, a power connector, two USB 2.0 ports, a HDMI port (1.4a), and 2 more USB 3.0 ports.
The cloud storage unit comes with 8GB of RAM and a 2.0 GHz Intel Celeron Processor.
The Linux-based, 4.1 software is highly advanced, but still easy to use due to the well-known feel of an icon-based interface. The system resembles iOS software or Windows software.
One of the more interesting features of this software is the Virtualisation Station, which is an app that allows users to run operation systems on the NAS device. Users can install and use systems such as Windows, Unix, and several others. The installation of this app is quick, easy and user-friendly.
The Intel Celeron processor really amps up the QNAP TS-453 Pro’s production scores, placing it number one in comparison to most other storage units. In terms of transferring/copying files to a folder, the TS-453 Pro recorded a 98mb/s transfer rate.
Benchmarks regarding power consumption ranged a bit more and were not as impressive. When transferring or copying, the power consumption level reached 43 watts, which is not the most impressive in the market. During idle, meaning barely in use, the power consumption level dropped to around 35 watts and during extended idle. The power consumption dropped again to 20 watts.
The read/write speeds of the QNAP TS-453 Pro along with the processing speeds and power consumption levels make the NAS storage unit a top of the line device fit for almost any use.
With the ability to both save documents/files from any device to the QNAP TS-453 Pro as well and view any document saved to it from an electronic device that shares the same WiFi network, the storage unit goes both ways. Its fairly small size makes it portable and easy to store, even though the design may not be the most stylish. Keep track of your items and know that they are safe and secure just in case of emergencies!
