The Polaroid Company have built themselves a reputation of making some of the most modern cameras that sport features from decades ago, giving a nostalgic feeling to the user. The new Polaroid Snap is the latest camera they have released and it has not in any way deviated from this Polaroid tradition. It is a pocket sized camera capable of taking instant photos. It resembles the Zip Printer, another of the Company’s products, except that it is slightly smaller. Another difference between these two is that while the Zip Printer can receive and print photos sent to it via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, the Polaroid Snap takes its own photos via a 10 MP image sensor.
What is the design of Polaroid Snap?
Most budget cameras are pretty much just boring but it is not so with the Polaroid Snap. From its design to how it works and prints out the pictures, the Polaroid instant camera is definitely not just a cheap camera. It has a timeless simple design and it’s small enough to fit in a pocket. It has a matte finish, which is not much of a problem except that it can get really dirty really first. It has a view finder that pops up when you want to use it and a shutter button that lets you take shots with the 10 MP image sensor.
What is the performance ?
In terms of performance, the Polaroid Snap is no doubt the smallest and the fastest instant camera available in the market currently. When the shutter button is pressed, the camera takes and stores the snaps in an internal memory space and in less than 35 seconds spits out instant prints. This is made possible because of the in-built printer.
The printer makes use of ZINK technology which activates color crystals embedded on the sticky paper. Unlike normal printers that put ink on paper, this Zink printer uses heat to activate the desired colors. This results in a traditional hardcopy photo generated using the most modern technology. The main advantage of this ZINK is that ink cartridges are done away with. In their place you now have to purchase this special paper and it is actually fairly achievable. 100 sheets of this paper are available for just around $30.
What is the image quality ?
The 2 by 3 photos generated have the same quality as those of the Zip Printer. Colors are not as vibrant and sometimes printing streaks are visible across the photos. The resolution of both the hardcopy that is generated and the softcopy stored in the memory card is really not the best, but the sticker pics are relatively better.
The advantage of this instant sticker pics is that they are really convenient if you want to make an instant scrap book, and while the quality of the pictures is not the very best, the Polaroid Snap is still helpful in capturing and freezing moment on hard copy photos.
It is able to snap frames in sepia, or in normal color or in black and white, whichever you prefer. There is also a provision to add the classic white photo frames. These white frames give the photos a timeless classy look.
Compared to many instant cameras, the Polaroid Snap is a good choice if you are looking for a vintage like instant camera and while it may not have an LCD panel at its back for better shots and for snapping selfies, it is still an excellent choice even when placed against Fujifilm instant cameras and it is available at a very competitive price of about $99.
