OnePlus One 16GB Review
OnePlus One 16GB utilizes the same Snapdragon 801 processor as Galaxy S5, apart from featuring full High Definition screen of 5.5 inches and super-size battery. As well, the handset is among the first versions to utilize CyanogenMod software which offers greater number of options for security and personalization, compared to the typical Android skin.
The phone looks and feels good in equal terms. It has a slightly-curved rear of rectangular form, being gritty and having sandpaper-like texture which offers easy grip. The panel of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 measures 5.5 inches and has silver-gray edges framing it, along with thin bezel which only becomes noticeable once the screen gets turned on.
A speaker and 5MP camera sit beside the LED indicator light. Soft keys are available for Home, Menu and Back underneath the display. Backlights of the keys turn off for every inactive span of 3 to 5 seconds, which could render them difficult finding in some way. It is possible setting the backlight on at all times, though the light gets dim at such occasion.
OnePlus would perhaps have looked better with Menu button swapped for Recent Apps key. It will be necessary long-pressing Menu key however, in order to switch in-between open apps by default, though you could set home key to achieve this function by long-pressing it.
To the left edge lies volume rocker and discrete microSIM card slot, whereas a power button is positioned to the right side. An audio jack of 3.5mm sits on top of the gadget, while microUSB port is to be found at the bottom section, where it is flanked by two speakers with stereo.
OnePlus One has storage capacity of 16GB and does not provide options for onboard memory expansion, among them microSD card slot. This could prove somewhat limiting for the phone, especially for users keen on shooting 4K video.
The OnePlus measures 6.0 x 2.9 x 0.35 inches and is larger compared to leading flagship phones like Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One M8. Weighing 5.7 ounces, this phone feels appreciably sturdy, though is heavier compared to Galaxy S5, which is 5.1 ounces and HTC One M8 that weighs 5.6 ounces.
The display screen of OnePlus One 16GB exhibits resolution of 1920 x 1080 implying you can have clear views of 1080p video. Expect having clear view of distinct elements of a subject within video pictures. Users also get to enjoy wide angles of view, as images retain their quality and color while the phone gets tilted sideways.
The bottom-facing dual JBL speakers of OnePlus One will fill a room of medium size in comfortable manner, without being excessively strong in sound production. There is an onboard app, Audio FX that offers equalizer consisting of 13 preset profiles. These include Dance, Classical, Pop, Custom and Electronic, together with bass boost as well as surround sound which toggle to allow for adjustment of each setting’s level.
To you keep this, let’s say it, quite amazing phone in a good shape along the years, you can add a StyleSwap cover to your shopping basket: bamboo, jeans… Those are surprisingly stylish for a non-Apple phone and will protect your OnePlue One quite efficiently.
