Olympus OM-D E-M5 Review
The Olympus OM-D E-M5 is an interchangeable lens camera with 3.0 inches tilting OLED touchscreen. It has a high resolution of 1.4million dot Electronic View Finder and 16 megapixel live-MOS sensor. It is claimed to be the world's fastest autofocus.
The 3-inch touch screen can be tilted and is easy to view. It is very responsive to the touch when selecting settings and playing back images. By merely touching the screen, you can already focus on your subject and take a shot. This organic light-emitting diode (OLED) is a unique, useful and attractive feature. With this tilting screen, there's no bending or kneeling needed when taking shots. Even over-the-head shots are easy to handle with the use of this screen. It's just that the screen is not that brilliant and not that speedy; it could hardly cope up with moving objects. For those who want to walk around with an all-around or all-in-one compact camera equipped with high caliber image sensor minus the weight and the bulkiness of expensive cameras these days.
It is a carry-around that can be used for indoor portraits with less light or outdoor photo shooting under the sun. This Japanese-made camera is sturdy, dust-resistant and weather-resistant. It feels durable and looks expensive. It looks well put together and gives you a feeling of assurance that you have not been ripped off due to its high selling price. It is neither heavy nor light. Buttons are small and difficult to press. Those who have big fingers will surely find this uneasy. The flash looks somewhat flimsy and performs a little less than excellent. Customizing is definitely a step-up feature. It has an array of options from automatic to manual that you won't normally find. This full-packed menu is one big selling factor of this OM-D E-M5. It is a very nice learning tool especially to those who are just new in the world of photography. The instructions manual needs to be read and learnt. Most of the controls are found in the menu and need some digging and familiarization. The functions are easy to manage, though.
Unlike others, the viewfinder is quite visible even under direct sunlight. Pictures can be taken indoors even without the flash at 9 frames per second. This cam is not for sports photo shots but it has its own strengths. Its image quality is comparable with a DSLR. This performs well as a landscape and street cam. Most professional photographers are beginning to love the idea of bringing a camera like this OM-D E-M5 instead of the massive and heavy DSLR and zoom lenses. Holding the camera with one hand is not easy and not comfortable. It needs a lens strap for security in case it slips off your hand. However, the other hand can be used to hold the bottom part of the cam for a more secured and steady shot. Overall, the Olympus OM-D E-M5 is a high-tech camera that is very portable and versatile. It is user-friendly and is an amazing tool to use to learn deeply the world of photography. This camera is a great value for money and is highly recommendable.
