Nokia Lumia 830 Review
Nokia Lumia 830 review
The Nokia Lumia 830 is a phone that comes in between the flagship Lumia 930 and the budget Lumia 735. It’s not really a flagship but it was meant to compete with other higher end mid rangers like the HTC One Mini 2 and the Galaxy S5 Mini. In short, anyone looking for a phone that could come close to the Lumia 930, Galaxy S5 or iPhone 6 but has a limited budget, might want to look at the Nokia Lumia 830.
The first impressions come with its 10 megapixel camera which comes with in-built optical image stabilization. This technology ensures that you get sharper and brighter photos even in low lit areas. The technology can only be found on the iPhone 6 plus. Its camera also comes with mid-range power and a ton of features that you wouldn’t expect in this price range. Its design is great but as usual, there will be a question on the apps available on Windows since it uses the new Windows 8.1. Furthermore, the 720p screen seems a bit off for a ‘flagship’ phone. Let’s just say that the Windows phone is just a good phone that is affordable and outdoes most windows phones in terms of performance. However, it’s going to be facing steep competition from various phones and there is a question on moving from one O.S to another.
Although the Nokia Lumia 830 is a stripped down flagship phone, it somehow manages to compete with some high end flagship phones such as the Galaxy S5 Mini. The only area that the Nokia Lumia 830 beats the Samsung Galaxy 5s mini is on its metal casing. However, Samsung is way ahead when it comes to CPU power, screen technology and front camera. The S5 comes with a fingerprint scanner and is PayPal verified for your online shopping needs.
When compared to the HTC One Mini 2 it matches up on the CPU power but gets kicked on the metal casing department, something that HTC has perfected. Nokia Lumia 830 comes with a 0.9MP front facing camera when HTC placed a 5MP one on their One Mini 2. However, when it comes to battery life and screen size, the 830 wins hands down. Its 2,200 mAh battery is a Li-ion one which will last 22 days in stand-by mode and about half a day in 3G calling time.
Sony Xperia Z1 beats the 830 when it comes to the rear camera as it has a 20MP while the former has 10MP. However, the Lumia here should be preferred by media enthusiasts as it has a larger screen than the Z1.
The Nokia Lumia 830 is a good choice for the shopper who wants something like a flagship phone but his budget won’t allow him to reach the iPhone 6c. It has a good design and its mid rage performance is impressive. This phone will not break any world records, but at its price range, you wouldn’t ask for more. Once again, the Oss battle should be expected in the comment section and so it all depends on what you feel comfortable with. Anyway, the phone is better in terms of value as compared to the higher end 930.
