The 3-Minute Nikon Z6 Review
Nikon Takes on the Mid-Range Market

Features & Design: 4/5 ● Performance: 4/5 ● Value: 3/5 ● Battery Life 4/5
Nikon is a digital camera powerhouse that makes a multitude of photographic devices that are world renowned as being of some of the best quality. They produce both professional and consumer grade cameras, and the Z6 sits somewhere firmly in the middle as a non DSLR camera. It has great ISO and is a decent all round camera.
Not everyone is a fan of the mirrorless design of cameras, and the somewhat low resolution, by today’s standards at least, of 24.5MP could have used a slight bump to get the numbers up. There aren’t too many lenses available for the Nikon Z6 either, so this is something that needs to be taken into account.
Is it for you?
Most people that are into photography covet the DSLR styled cameras as they have traditionally offered some of the best quality pictures. The pricing on DSLR could be somewhat restrictive for most photographers, so the Nikon Z6 is a decent compromise for newcomers to the world of photography. If you enjoy taking high quality pictures and video, then this could be just the camera for you.
Meet the Nikon Z6
The Nikon Z6 has been constructed with high quality materials that are tough and durable, while maintaining a premium feel and aesthetic. The controls are well laid out, and are easily accessible when holding the device. For users that find themselves shooting in different conditions with the same camera, there is a handy multi user setup, so you can configure profiles for up to 3 different settings.
What we like
Nikon produces an adapter that can be bought separately for F-Mount lens compatibility, so if you already have a small fortune invested in those lenses then you can make use of them. This has some advantages over traditional DSLR cameras as far as lens compatibility goes, which is another positive aspect of these styles of cameras.
The camera has multiple sensors all over it, and it is a great auto focus unit that allows for fantastic shots with clear picture quality. The view finder is an OLED display and features 100% coverage with .8 magnification with a 37 degree angle of view.
Something that is also great is that it has a standard view finder as well, negating the need for the digital screen if lighting is a challenge. Filming can be down in 4K UHD, which is around 3,840 x 2,160 , or 1,920 x 1080 at 120FPS.
What we don’t like
There are a few things that are not ideal with this camera, like the fact that it has no built-in flash or second SD card slot. It only takes XQD cards, which is a good or bad thing depending on how many of these cards you already have.
Nikon hasn’t released any lifetime figures for the battery modules in these units, so there is a little uncertainty regarding longevity in the camera’s overall operation. The lack of auto brightness control on the rear viewfinder is also a little annoying.
Should you buy it?
This could be just the camera for you if you are looking for a silent camera with a mirrorless design, instead of the traditional DSLR style cameras. Image stabilization comes in the form of a 5 axis in camera sensor shift, as well as VR lens capabilities which are sure to come in handy for high quality interactive content creators.
