Nikon D5 Review
- 12FPS with AE and AF tracking
- 153 AF points
- 4K video recording
The Nikon D5 is Nikon’s latest pro DSLR released in the CES 2016 and it is an upgrade of its older sibling the D4S. It packs a few decent features worth mentioning such as the high ISO settings, 12 FPS, more AF points than you have ever seen although you can only select a total of 55 and it should be available to consumers this March. The camera comes with two variants one with two SD card slots and the other with two XQD card slots and the choice depends on what you prefer to use.
What is the image quality ?
This summer, we will be looking forward to the Olympic Games in Brazil and I think it could have never been a better time for Nikon to release a camera with a 20.8 MP sensor with an ISO range that has never been seen before. The camera boasts of an ISO setting of over 3 million and this is just out of this world considering the normal settings won’t go to the million mark. However, it turns out that this is the best way to keep the noise levels on check and consequently improve on the image quality especially with the normal range of ISO 100-102, 400. The marketing plan was to get hold of the consumers who need the ISO 6400- 12, 800 range and obviously this is where the news and sports photographers fall in place. In this regard, expect high quality images from this new baby.
What is the sound quality ?
The Nikon D5 is an improved Nikon D4S and although sound isn’t its main strength, it could still offer decent quality for your 4K videos as long as the clips are not longer than 2 minutes. The sound qualities of the clips are generally OK and could be used for social media or online use. However, the separate mic could come in handy if you want something extra.
Is it waterproof and durable?
Unfortunately, the Nikon D5100 is a better camera when it comes to waterproofing and durability. You should check out the Nikon D5100 review and the Nikon D5100 price if you would like to see the difference between the two cameras.
Conclusion: Is it worth it?
First of all, you should check out the Nikon D5100 price and the Nikon D5100 review to see the difference between these cameras if you are more interested in the Nikon D5 price rather than performance. However, the camera Nikon D5100 is also a worthy consideration if you don’t mind saving a few extra bucks. Nevertheless, I would avoid the camera Nikon D5100 and go straight to the Canon 1DX if I were to find a suitable camera for pro sports photography. Nevertheless, the camera Nikon D5100 could still be a worthy camera if you don’t earn a living off of photography.
