Nikon D3200 / 18-55mm & 55-200mm Kit Review

The D3200 18-55mm & 55-200mm Kit is the latest entry level DSLR from Nikon for all the budding photographers. The camera features 24MP CMOS sensor providing a high pixel count.

Though D3200 offers slightly better features compared to D3100, it’s not too far ahead of its predecessors when it comes to the overall functionality. D3200 has a 1080p30 video mode, the option to add a Wi-Fi transmitter and a 920k dot LCD. Similar to other Nikon models at this level, D3200 lacks a built-in focus motor, as well as auto exposure bracketing. The camera also features a simplified version of the Active D-Lighting function which is now a common feature among all Nikon’s DSLR cameras.  When it comes to functionality and performance, this model offers compelling features for a camera in its class. Another great aspect of the camera is the option to trigger the shutter along with an infrared remote. There are different controls available on the camera's body, and they are mostly easy to operate and navigate. The controls centralized in a single button, which makes it quite simple to deal with most of its functions.

Apart from the camera, the kit also includes a Nikon 55-200mm VR DX AF-S Lens, a Transcend 16GB Class10 SD Card, Nikon Digital SLR Camera Case, a Vivitar 52mm UV Glass Filter, Additional Vivitar 52mm UV Glass Filter, PD 2.5x Tele & .45x Wide Lens, Precision Design 57" Tripod, PD SDHC Memory Card Reader, PD 6pc Complete Cleaning Kit, PD Memory Card Storage Wallet and LCD Monitor Screen Protectors, making it a holistic kit for any entry level photographer. Nikon has made sure to provide all the basic necessities in a single kit, and this is definitely one of the most impressive such packages out there. The lens of the Nikon D3200 / 18-55mm & 55-200mm Kit is wide-angled, providing a more clear view and clarity for close pictures. The camera has a lens which is equivalent to 55 to 200 mm. It also holds a 2X telephoto lens.

The Nikon D3200 18-55mm & 55-200mm Kit has a storage capacity of 16GB. The data can be stored in the memory card which comes with the kit. The flash available is the tripod slave flash which also comes as a handy feature. On the downside, the D3200 camera is somewhat modest in its features and performance, and is suitable for people who pursue photography more as a hobby than a profession. The adaptor included in the kit bag is not wireless. Another minor quibble would be the not-so-appealing camera bag. Apart from this, Nikon D3200 18-55mm and 55-200mm kit provides great performance with better quality at a reasonable price. The camera kit comes with all the necessary accessories. The small size of the camera gives it an added advantage of portability, making it easy to carry around.

  • Pros:
Good design; Easy to operate; Incredible kit is provided along with the camera
  • Cons:
Modest features and performance for a full-fledged DSLR
Our score:
4.5 / 5
