Microsoft Lumia 640 Review

Microsoft is slowly but surely establishing itself on the market as a good quality provider of smartphones, and unlike their main competitors, they are able to provide budget phones that run surprisingly well. Microsoft Lumia 640 is yet another example of the company’s abilities. You’re paying a reasonable amount of money, but in exchange you receive something which is over-par when it comes to the price to quality ratio. Of course, some people might be disappointed because the latest games and apps aren’t always on time in the Windows Store, but things are headed in the right direction here, as well, so a bit of patience will work wonders.

What’s Microsoft well-known for, aside from Windows? For their Office packages, of course. This is why the Lumia 640 comes with a one-year Personal subscription to the Office 365 package. You can edit and create all sorts of Office documents, according to your needs; it doesn’t matter anymore if you’re on the go when you have to work on something, you can do it in an instant with your phone.

When it comes to cameras, the Microsoft Lumia 640 phone comes with both a primary and a front camera. The primary camera has an 8MP sensor, which is ideal if you’re looking for high resolution photos, of up to 3264 x 2448 pixels. Thanks to this camera, you can also shoot videos in Full HD format, at 30 frames per seconds. The secondary camera is not the greatest, having a 1MP sensor. However, it should be enough if you’re not extremely elitist when it comes to selfies. The camera is able to record video in 720p, and it might be a good solution if you are interested in Skype conversations through the phone.

The Windows Phone 8.1 operating system relies on a great combination of hardware in order to make things work round the clock. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset boasts a quad-core Cortex-A7 processor that runs at 1.2 GHz, so there’s plenty of juice to keep your apps up and running. Moreover, the GPU is an Adreno 305, so you will be able to enjoy top quality graphics when it comes to both games and video content. The Microsoft Lumia 640 also comes with 1GB of RAM memory, which is ideal for some multitasking throughout the day.

The internal memory of the Microsoft Lumia 640 smartphone seems to follow the usual pattern of Microsoft phones; you have 8GB available, but there’s plenty of room for expansion with the aid of a micro SD card. You can insert a card that is up to 128GB in size, so all of your favorite apps, games, songs, videos and photos can fit without forcing you to choose between one or another. Running all sorts of content also requires some good battery life, and the 2500 mAh capacity of the battery inside the device will give you the needed support throughout the day, so you can enjoy everything you need without trying to find a power outlet.

  • Pros:
Powerful hardware good battery capacity Office 365 subscription
  • Cons:
    Poor front camera resolution
Our score:
4.5 / 5
