Mario Party 8 (Wii) Review

Key features

Launched in 2007 worldwide, Mario Party 8 (Wii) is the eighth version of the Mario Party series of video games. This is the first game in the series where all the Mii characters (the digital avatars) are present. This is a board game with multiple mini-games and is known for its “pick up and play” action. The main mode of the game consists of six boards where the players need to travel to earn stars. Some of the landing spaces are helpful while the others act as hindrances. There are several variations of the game where the main goal is tweaked to make the game interesting.

Introduction

Mario Party 8 (Wii) was developed by Hudson Soft and published by Nintendo. The game can be played in various modes : single, two, three and even four players at the same time. The motion control in the game is of top class and allows you to engage in various activities : punching statues, rowing down rivers and steering mopeds and cars. Mario Party 8 for Wii is a party game where you can play against the computer or other players. Up to four players can play to the game on six boards at the same time. The game is mostly fun and whatever violence is there is on a rather funny level.

How is the gameplay experience ?

For gameplay, players roll the dice in turns to move across the landing spaces and pick up stars or coins on the way. There are some spaces with hindrances and going past these is the real challenge. At the end of every round of the game, there is a mini-game to be played. The mini-games are fun and include for instance walking a tightrope while holding a stick, swinging the baseball bat at the diamonds and furiously shaking a soda can. Some of the others would imply to punch statues, row down rivers or steer mopeds and cars… There are fourteen characters that can be used in the game : Mario, Luigi, Princess Daisy, Toad, Princess Peach, Toadette, Yoshi, Boo, Blooper, Dry Bones, Waluigi, Wario and Hammer Bro. Apart from these characters, players can also choose the Mii characters. Mario Party 8 (Wii) is a family game where everyone can get together and compete against each other. If there are four players, they can choose four characters to compete with the other players on the six boards. If there are less than four players, the players can choose the characters and the computer will play.

Conclusion: should I buy it ?

The gaming experience is superb : you need to use your brain and to put your thinking on the line to manoeuvre through the boards. This game is also excellent for passing time : you can play with friends and alone. The stress level of the game is well within control and this is the reason why the game is recommended for anyone who is 8 years of age or more.

  • The Good :
Multiple boards to play the game on, multiplayer game and contains all the Mii characters
  • The Bad :
Elements of random chance can frustrate fiercely competitive players
Our score:
3 / 5
