Logitech Wireless Mouse M510 Review

The Logitech Wireless Mouse M510 is a full-size laser mouse that provides all-day comfort with soft rubber grips and a contoured shape; you can do more, more easily. The full-size, contoured design with soft side grips feels good in either hand, even after long hours of use. The M510 is another Logitech device that runs using the Unifying Receiver which plugs into the USB slot on your laptop or computer. It allows for you to connect multiple devices at once which frees up other slots for use. Logitech also makes it easy to lug around the tiny Unifying Receiver by putting a nifty little space for it inside the battery compartment. Those prone to misplacing or losing hardware will certainly appreciate that. The M510 also features laser tracking which allows for the device to work on just about every single surface but glass, programmable buttons which allows for in-depth customization, back and forward buttons that work perfectly with the thumb, side-to-side scrolling and an estimated two years of battery life. Installation is super easy. Plug the nano receiver into any available USB port on your computer. Remove the plastic battery guard tab, and turn the switch from "off" to "on". There are no drivers or software to install. Reception is pretty good. However, the M510 doesn't do very well on wood surfaces. This is a little disappointing for those who work on wood surfaces. The Logitech M510 "skips" a little bit and exhibits sporadic performance on wood. The M510 is a solid, basic mouse. It is still small enough to be portable if you have big hands and don't want a small laptop-sized mouse. The scroll wheel is nothing fancy, and you can't program any of the mouse's buttons. The M510 includes a number of nice features, including a pair of buttons on the left side. They protrude far enough out to be easily manipulated, but not so far that they got in the way. By default, these buttons are used for navigating Forward and Back on your browser, but you can download a piece of software from Logitech that allows you to remap them to alternative functions, Though the mouse has a fairly symmetrical design, left-handed users might find it a little unwieldy to use the extra buttons. The scroll wheel is acceptable, and great if you don't care about side-clicking or the differences between a clutched and non-clutched scroll. If you don't mind scrolling a little bit at a time, the M510s wheel is right up your alley. In short, it's a basic scroll wheel. The scroll wheel can be tilted left and right to provide a horizontal scrolling ability, but the device still retains a solid rugged feel - nothing feels flimsy. The mouse uses two AA batteries; Logitech claims it can run for up to two years on a single pair of batteries, and several other reviews found online attest to that fact. There's a small on-off switch on the underside of the mouse that can help preserve your battery life, and the mouse includes an automatic sleep mode. The battery compartment even includes a small storage port for the nano receiver. Those prone to misplacing or losing hardware will certainly appreciate that. So, for those of you who just want a solid, cordless mouse with a few extra features or even if you just want a solid mouse, the Logitech Wireless Mouse M510 will deliver and it's not expensive at all.
