Logitech Harmony Ultimate One Review
There is a reason this Logitech Harmony Ultimate One remote is called the Ultimate. With an IR touch screen, radio frequency, Bluetooth, and the capability to pass signals through walls and door, you can access nearly any device with this one remote. Of course, every product has its flaws, but do the ones of this device really bring it down?
The small and lightweight remote is comfortable to hold and easy to use. The curve of the back of the remote makes accessing all of the buttons convenient while the 2.4-inch touch screen is large and not overly sensitive.
The DVD/VCR buttons such as play, pause, fast-forward, rewind, power, and stop are all located at the top of the remote. This can be annoying for anyone who is a heavy DVD watcher. Most of the other controls such as changing the channel, accessing settings, accessing the list of shows are run through the touch screen, which can take some getting used to. Volume adjustment is also done through the remote.
The only real problem with the display of the Harmony Ultimate One is that it attracts fingerprints and could use a bit more resolution in the screen. So long as you keep it clean and blink your eyes every now and then though, everything should be fine.
The touch screen performance is strong for the Harmony Ultimate One. There is rarely any delay and the vibration feedback allows you to be certain you’ve hit the button and it has been activated. A unique feature to the Ultimate One is its auto shut off/turn on software. The remote uses a tilt sensor in order to determine when it is being used. So, by picking it up, the device will turn on automatically and by setting it down, it will turn off. This saves battery life significantly.
There are four ports located on the bottom of the remote; a reset button, two IR blasters, and a charging port. The added Wi-Fi also allows the remote to be run through the Logitech Smartphone App on any iOS or Android device.
In regards to battery life, there are some good and some bad notes. First of all, the battery is not replaceable but is secure inside the remote so it’s rare that anything will happen to it. The battery is also rechargeable, but the charge only holds for around 4 days depending on the amount of use.
So, it’s fairly obvious that the Harmony Ultimate One is by far one of the most high-tech devices on the market. With the ability to travel signals through cabinets or drawers, be controlled through a small app, and is user friendly, this remote could be a huge benefit to your home and living area. Even though the battery life is fairly low, it’s rechargeable and protected. The price is hefty but worth it for this all in one remote!
