By Rachel Hutson | June 2020
In April 2020, Huawei released the P40 series, with three variants, the P40 Light, P40, and P40 Pro. In this 3-Minute smartphone review, we will go over the P40 Pro.
The Design of the Huawei P40 Pro is mesmerizing with its glass back, slender lightweight aluminum body, curved edges with a breezeless front display. Stunning colour options are available such as Silver Frost, Blush Gold, Deep Sea Blue, Ice White and Black.
Running Android 10 and, EMUI 10.1 Huawei user interface. This flagship device runs on the Kirin 990 5G chipset and 8GB RAM, which provides overall improvements in performance. Octa-core CPU and a Mali-G76 MP16 GPU to provide excellent graphics.
The P40 Pro comes with 4200mAh battery, and 40W fast charging, and 27W wireless charging, with a27W reverse charging. 5G network to give you even faster internet.

The screens on the P40 Pro doesn’t disappoint sporting a 6.58-inch OLED HDR 10 screen. A 90Hz refresh rate to give you a smooth display, to make scrolling through webpages or playing games lag-free.
The quad-camera setup produces excellent images. The main camera is a 50MP (wide), paired with 12MP (telephoto) with 5x optical zoom, a 40 MP (ultrawide), depth sensor. The usual collaboration with Leica means you will get high-quality images from a premium brand. The Video capabilities are as follows: 4K@30/60fps, 1080p@30/60fps, 720@7680fps, 1080p@960fps. The selfie camera sports a dual-camera setup with a 32 MP (wide), and a 3D motion sensor.
The loss of Google Plays Services has hit Huawei hard but doesn’t take away from the overall use of this device. The audio jack has been taken away, so you will have to use Bluetooth headphones, which is a pain, but some of you may already have a set, so it won’t be an issue for you.
Is it for you?
Well, if you are already a fan of the Huawei brand, the P40 Pro is worth it upgrade. If you are in the EU and a few other areas other then the US, you will not have an issue with Google Play services as they are provided in these regions.
What we like
The Chipset doesn’t disappoint fitted with a Kirin 990 5G, Octa-core CPU, and 8GB RAM. The Mali-G76 GPU rivals the Qualcomm Adreno 640 to provide you with high-end graphics capabilities.
With a few sensors such as Infrared face recognition, fingerprint, accelerometer, gyro, proximity and a compass, you will find this device can help you in many situations, whether at work or for leisure purposes.
The addition of a card slot for external memory can give you an extra 256GB. You will also get 128GB/256GB/512GB internal memory, respectively.
What we don’t like
Overuse of the fast charging feature can cause the battery to lose charge quicker, but this is not an overall fault with the phone; it is more of an issue with Li-Po batteries, so try to charge it with the standard charger to prolong the battery. The cost is quite extravagant but is expected with a premium flagship device, and it makes up for it in performance. But if you find this price too high for you can look at the P40 Light.
Should you buy it?
Yes, the P40 Pro flagship device is a fantastic purchase, as the collaboration with Leica will always provide you with stunning images.
