The 3-Minute Huawei Mate 20 Pro Review
Huawei Mate 20 Pro
By Graeme Messina | November 09, 2018
Features & Design: 4/5 ● Performance: 4/5 ● Value: 4/5 ● Battery Life 4/5
The Huawei Mate 20 Pro picks up where the wildly successful P20 Pro. It manages to surpass its predecessor by a large margin, with great hardware and styling. It has a triple camera system, and a wide array of other features that we will get into later. One example is the 3D face unlock that makes security a strong characteristic of this device.
Unfortunately, there are a few things that might make this game a little less desirable for the average user, starting with the price tag. This is an expensive, flagship device, so don’t expect to pick this up on the cheap.
Is it for you?
This is a really stylish device, so if you feel the need to make a statement with your mobile phone, then this will definitely help you with that. It has superior security features, and has an amazing triple camera setup. There are other great design features that the engineers at Huawei have managed to squeeze into this device.
Meet the Huawei 20 Pro
The Mate 20 Pro offers its users a 6.39-inch display that is equipped with an OLED display, making for some clear and crisp visuals. It has something called a FullView Display with a 3120x1440 resolution. The CPU is a Kirin 980, which gives this phone decent performance. Storage is 128GB built in, and the RAM allocation is 6GB. The cameras are varied in their resolutions, but they combine to give really high-quality pictures.
What we like
The cameras are a nice addition to this line of devices. The rear cameras are: 40MP Wide Angle for camera 1, 20MP Wide Angle for camera 2, and an 8MP 3x Zoom camera for the third one. All of these cameras combine to give you clear pictures that look really good, rivalling the best smart phones that are available on the market.
The battery is a 4,200mAh that gives you plenty of usage time, meaning that even the most demanding users will be able to enjoy an uninterrupted day’s-worth of use. There is a fast charger that is 40W, called Huawei SuperCharge, giving you the ability to charge up in no time at all.
The screen is one of the main attractions here, and because it is an OLED display it offers you excellent colors, brightness and image quality. Eye Comfort is another feature that sets this phone apart from some of its competitors, balancing the white of images on your screen.
What we don’t like
Unfortunately there is no headphone jack, which means that you wil need to use an adapter or a Bluetooth wireless set instead. People have become accustomed to not having any headphone jacks, so this isn’t a big deal for most people. The expense of this unit will make it unreachable for most, but that is the price of high tech flagships.
Should you buy it?
If you have a need for an amazing camera system, super-fast processing, and well thought out design with massive on-board storage, then this is a phone worth considering. The fast charging and big battery make this a phone that comes with flagships specific features. This is a vast improvement over the P20 Pro that came out earlier this year and is well worth looking at.
