HTC One 32GB Review
The HTC One 32GB is part of a powerhouse line of smartphones which have been able to stand out many times in the market despite a fierce competition by manufacturers such as Apple and Samsung. Does it do the job, though? Let’s find out.
The HTC One 32GB is one gorgeous, stunning smartphone; there are no arguments about that. Its metal design, from its zero-gap aluminum unibody to its Corning Gorilla Glass shield, will definitely draw the eye. It is slim, and ensures a comfortable and secure grip, thanks to the tapered edges. The glass shield, on the other hand, boasts HTC’s Native Damage Resistance feature, making it resistant to scratches and abrasion, while effectively reducing glare produced by its beautiful 4.7-inch screen. This powerful smartphone owes its ultrafast, warp-speed performance and multitasking capabilities to a 1.7 GHz Next-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor, with 2 GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage. Unfortunately, the absence of a microSD card slot precludes the possibility of increasing storage space. Despite that, this phone is proving to be very reliable, even with prolonged battery use.
Which brings us to another point: the life of the 2600 mAh battery of the HTC One 32GB will largely depend on what it will be used for. It turned on and left idle, it could last upwards from 8 hours. Playing games, listening to music, and watching videos will, predictably, consume more battery life, so having a portable charger on hand at all times is highly recommended. Since the HTC One 32GB runs the Android Jelly Bean platform, you will have access to apps such as Google Maps, Google Now, and Voice Actions. This is on top of the HTC apps already incorporated into this smartphone, such as the Calendar, HTC Blinkfeed, and the remote control Sense TV. It would also be remiss of us not to mention the innovative camera of the HTC One 32GB. This unit is furnished with the HTC UltraPixel Camera, with its more advanced ISP, CMOS Sensor, and optical lens system. Images are sharper, colors are richer and have more depth, and photos have a lot of clarity, regardless of the lighting conditions.
The HTC Zoe mode that comes with the camera is where much of the innovation comes in. You will be able to take photos like a pro, and images can be turned into videos with special effects that the users can also choose. The tradeoff? Using HTC Zoe can take a toll on battery life. HTC has also taken greater strides in improving its Sense capabilities. It resulted in the HTC One 32GB having a wholly redesigned and more user-friendly interface. The grid and layout are simpler and more straightforward, and gives users a lot of room for customization. The lack of clutter is a welcome change, especially if you sometimes feel swamped with too many buttons and icons showing up all at the same time. Comparing the HTC One 32GB to other phones of its class in the market is a disservice to this gorgeous smartphone. It has its minor flaws, yes, but they are minor and can be easily forgiven, considering its overall outstanding performance.
