HTC Desire 510 Review

The HTC Desire 510 is the affordable smartphone with 4G LTE that you have been looking for. It also comes with an easy to use Android KitKat Software, a nice battery and a considerably able processor. Although the camera isn’t the jaw dropping kind, is surely does the basics. The designing team also had to compromise, to reach the desired pricing. In short, this device won’t break any records but won’t break the bank either. Instead it will offer you great data speeds with the 4G LTE and handle the basic functions of a smartphone without any strain.

The HTC Desire 510 is in some way a look alike of the Desire 610, its design is something close to the higher end HTC products. You are only able to take the single matte offered by HTC which has a Navy blue finish. It’s larger than other entry level phones. If you would like something lighter and smaller, then you should consider looking at the Crystal. You will find the volume buttons on the right edge while the power button lies on the top left corner.

An asset users can really benefit from is the battery life of this device: 7 hours of on-screen time, meaning a normal use of easily 2 days before having to charge it. Impressive. Only flaw: the charging time is about 3 hours and a half to fulfill the 21000 mAh battery, which is longer compared to most competitors.

One thing that HTC forgot to work on is the display, which can be a deal breaker to images lovers. Its 4.7 inch TFT LCD has a poor viewing angle and nearly everything looks grainy. The screen is also highly reflective and the best brightness that you can get is on average level. As usual, we expected HTC to add the front facing speakers but the guys working on the audio decided otherwise. When it comes to calling, HTC did a decent job and you won’t have to worry about the volume or noise cancellation any more.

Just like its display, the rear 5MP camera is quite disappointing. Image noise is something that you would expect from a low quality camera and the HTC Desire 510 is not an option. Forget about the low lit areas, it doesn’t get any better even in better lit areas. Although the video goes up to 1080p, it’s far from what you would call standard.

In all, I would suggest you look elsewhere if image quality is something that is of importance to you. The display also lets the whole phone down. If you don’t mind spending more, then go for the Moto G. Except from the storage and the few issues above, the HTC Desire 510 is a strong competitor in the budget smartphone market. Its performance isn’t superb but it offers just what you would like from a basic smartphone. If you aren’t looking for a fancy phone and could do without the few issues pointed out on this review, then make your order right now.

  • The Good :
Budget conscious for 4G, Impressive Battery life, Fast OS
  • The Bad :
    Poor display, Poor camera
