Features & Design: 4/5 ● Performance: 4.5/5 ● Value: 4/5
The best thing about the Gigabyte Aero 15 is its gaming-level performance. Add a great display, programmable keyboard, and solid battery life, and it’s a laptop that's perfect for an on-the-go gamer.
Despite its great performance, there are some issues. The touchpad can be a little awkward and unresponsive at times and the speakers aren’t great. Another drawback is its weight. It’s a little heavy (though it’s not bad for a gaming laptop). Last but not least, the webcam is located at the bottom of the screen which translates into a weird camera angle when you're using it.
Is it for you?
For serious gamers who also want a combination of performance and portability, the Gigabyte Aero 15 is a perfect buy. Its high performance means that, despite being a laptop, the Aero 15 can handle even the newest, most demanding games. It comes with a lot of RAM (16GB), a fast i7 processor, and great graphics. If you need a laptop that you can work and play on, this model also comes with a black finish that lets you take it to the office without looking out of place.
“It’s a solid gaming laptop that can also easily transition from play to work.”
Meet the Gigabyte Aero 15
Gigabyte has certainly upped their game with this laptop. While the Aero 14 was a strong laptop, it can’t compete with the Aero 15. The Aero 15 out-performs the Dell XPS line (its main competition) when it comes to gaming while still providing a great user experience.
The Aero 15 is a nice-looking laptop as well. Despite being a little on the heavy side, it has a sleek, modern design with eye-catching black, green, or orange colour options. One of the nice things about this laptop is the battery life, it will keep running for hours even with intense use. That’s a big plus for those wanting to do some on-the-go gaming.
What we like
Where do we start with this one? There are plenty of good things to mention. For gaming, this laptop has a stunning display with sharp, clear colours. There is even a 4k version in the works. Its great graphics capabilities let it keep up with the latest game releases. When you take into account the battery life, it means that you can keep gaming for hours.
On top of that, it also has some nice features like a fully programmable coloured keyboard that is perfect for gamers who want to customize their keyboard setup. Gigabyte has also put in a solid state hard drive and added a lot of ports that make it easy to plug in all of your accessories. A nice bonus is that this laptop comes in at a cheaper price than other similar models from competitors like Razer.
If you want a high-performance gaming laptop, this computer can certainly do the job. It’s a solid gaming laptop that can also easily transition from play to work.
What we don’t like
As you’d expect, no laptop is perfect. With the Aero 15, there are only a handful of issues. The first thing to mention is its weight. While it certainly won’t break your back, this laptop isn’t the lightest around either. Still, at only 4.6lbs (2.1kg), it’s pretty portable for a gaming laptop.
The other main issues are the speakers, touchpad, and webcam. The speakers aren’t a problem for those with headphones but if you want to play some music out loud, it’s good to know that the sound quality won't be very good.
When it comes to the touchpad, it can be a bit unresponsive at times. It's not the end of the world but it's still a bit frustrating. The webcam has also been placed at the bottom of the screen which makes for an awkward camera angle when you’re trying to Skype with someone.
Should you buy it?
Having the ability to game anywhere is a fantastic luxury. The Gigabyte Aero 15 is able to handle the most demanding games when you're out and about. As you’d expect for a model with technical specs like this, it’s pretty expensive. That said, it’s not as pricey as its competitors which makes it a solid choice. Regardless of whether you’re looking exclusively for a gaming laptop or for a laptop that can handle both work PowerPoints and a gaming session, the Gigabyte Aero 15 is worth a look.
