Garmin Edge 510 Review
Garmin Edge 510 is a GPS bike sensor with several additional features. This has opened up very positive reviews since ordinary bikes with fewer sensors have often been a matter of dissatisfaction for people who are into trailing, trekking and biking.
First off, this device counts with a telegenic live track system that would also let your friends and family track your activities using Garmin Fit or Garmin Connect Mobile. The later requires Edge 510 computer processing capability and would upload activities as they appear directly on the Garmin connect. It allows your device to predict where GPS satellites are located in the sky, so it spends less time searching for signals before you're ready to ride. The most interesting aspect here is the sensor's ability to store the stats for future reference that would help one evaluate before heading out for trailing or hiking activities.
Along with the numerous apps and features, Garmin Edge 510 is equipped with a mini USB charging cable. This is similar to the smartphone capabilities either plugged into the wall outlet or connected/ported into any computer USB port. The battery life of the device is pretty reliable and good enough so it can last up to 12-14 hours without dying out if fully charged before heading out. Another thing worth of notice is that this device is relatively of a larger size when compared to its predecessor Edge 500, but still smaller than the 800 series. This version of Garmin Edge is touch screen enabled. This is a very big advantage while riding, allowing the user to navigate through the interface with ease, and would help to easily manipulate and triage configurations and settings while riding.
At times, if one does not require the touch screen, the device comes with a lock screen methodology which entails the user to put the device in his jersey sometimes and ride their bikes. But the most exciting feature that is provided is the cell phone integration theme which would be of great help, for instances such as downloading courses’ routing paths to and from the phone, and then pairing it to your GPS system. It has also introduced iPhone and Android apps which would serve the purpose of pairing if and when needed. This feature is highly useful for avid travelers and adventure seeking people.
The weather forecast feature is a major aspect that is highly beneficial for cyclers while trekking at great altitudes, since getting caught off guard by the weather in such conditions tends to pose a dangerous problem. The 510 Edge model is equipped and facilitated with weather conditions, forecasts and alerts which flash directly onto the monitor screen. The quick mount system would leverage attaching the device to the bike with less than three rubber bands (which would mostly be an additional buy at a very low cost of $9).This bike sensor, unlike your average smartphone or tablet, also counts with a resistive touch screen interface which would still navigate and respond if embraced and traversed with wet fingers and gloves which is relegating for a bike rider given harsh winter or rainy conditions. All in all, it is a great buy particularly for those who are into trekking, as it provides a lot of useful features for your comfort and safety.
