With many features that can easily make it the world’s best and quietest digital camera, the Fujifilm X100T has a lot in the bag for users. Despite its small size that makes it very easy to underestimate, this camera is by far the most refreshing camera a professional photographer can get. It simply and effortlessly makes great images with minimum fussing. If you want incredibly sharp images, the non-Bayer filtered sensor will ensure that you get the very best of them. If you are an old school kind of guy who loves to have all the reigns, then this camera has plenty of manual controls that you can play with. In simple terms, this camera is the pro photographer’s fun camera.
What is its design ?
When compared with its older siblings, very little has been changed in the design of the Fujifilm X100T. While some people might mock this lack of progression in the visuals, there is not much you can do to improve such a flawless design. This camera comes with the retro design that has been attempted by a number of digital camera manufacturers severally, but never with such level of finesse. This camera looks simple and classy, with a magnesium alloy frame and a leather-like texture on the front and back parts of the camera to enhance the retro design. The build quality on this camera is as good as it gets and just one look at the camera will tell you that the camera has been built to last. It comes in full black or black with silver controls, lens and top plate. Measuring 127mm by 74mm by 52mm, this design is quite hefty and will certainly not fit in your trouser pocket.
What is its performance ?
One incredibly amazing feature of this camera is the ability to manually adjust the different capturing settings. Instead of the common PASM dial for switching between modes, you get two dials on the top plate and an aperture ring surrounding the lens. One of the two dials on the top plate is for controlling the shutter speed while the other is for exposure compensation. The aperture ring has been improved to feature increments that click every 1/3 of a stop. If none of these things make any sense to you and you are only after good quality images, you can choose to set all the parameters to auto and shoot away without worrying about getting the best settings for different scenes. There is a small flash on the front face of the camera, but if you need better illumination, you can s=use the hot shoe on the top plate to mount a larger one. You also get an advanced hybrid viewfinder that incorporates both electronic and optical viewing. This combines the simple design of an optical viewfinder with the complexity that comes with an electrical one. There is a dedicated lever that can be used to switch between the optical and electrical modes of the viewfinders. The electrical viewfinder gives you better control of the exposure, focus, white balance and other camera settings while the optical viewfinder minimizes the shutter lag time while giving you a clear view of the scene.
What is the image quality ?
With a 16.3MP CMOS sensor, you can take images with a resolution of up to 4896 by 3264 pixels. When it comes to video, you can take 1080p videos at frame rates of 24, 25, 30, 50 or 60 frames per second. You can also take 720p video at all these frame rates. When it comes to storage, it comes with 55MB built-in storage capacity and you can use SD, SDHC or SDXC memory cards for additional storage. With built-in Wi-Fi, you can use your smartphone to perform a number of functions without touching the camera hence using the phone as a remote control.
Conclusion: Should I buy it ?
If you want a unique retro design coupled with lots of manual control options and incredible image quality, then this is the camera to buy. Despite the rather high price tag, this camera is fun to shoot with and can produce incredible photos.
