Dyson V6 Review
The 3-Minute Dyson V6 Review
Budget Cordless Vacuum
By Graeme Messina | March 12, 2018
Features & Design: 4/5 ● Performance: 3.5/5 ● Value: 4/5 ● Battery: 4/5
The Dyson V6 is the entry level model of their cordless range, and it features similar suction performance to the V8 Animal. It also has similar battery life, and works for about 20 minutes between charges.
The Dyson V6 has a smaller dust container and comes with fewer attachments than some of the other vacuums in the cordless range, which may or may not be an issue for you. This device is better for tiled or wooden floors than it is for carpeting.
Is it for you?
It is easy to recommend this product if you are looking for a reasonably priced unit that is more than capable of cleaning small to medium sized areas in your house or vehicle.
Meet the Dyson V6
The idea behind the cordless range is simple: offer a great vacuum experience without the hassle of a tangled power cord. There are some sacrifices that need to be made in order for this to be achieved, namely the smaller dust container and slightly less powerful motors for collecting dust. There are multiple attachments as well, giving users added functionality when trying to clean various hard to reach spaces.
What we like
As with all of the Dyson cordless cleaners in this product range, the comfortable pistol grip handle and trigger make for an easy cleaning experience. There is air filtration built into the product as well, which means that allergy sufferers and people with respiratory sensitivities can breathe easily when the cleaning is being done. Battery life is enough for small to medium cleaning tasks, giving users an average vacuum time of around 40 minutes.
The build quality is top notch, with Dyson’s usual attention to detail and high strength materials. This means that the Dyson V6 is likely to last average home users a very long time. There are some basic accessories that come standard with this model, making for a versatile cleaner.
As this is the entry level variant of the Dyson cordless cleaner range, there is quite a bit of value when one considers how powerful the suction of the device is for a cordless unit.
What we don’t like
While the motor is powerful for its class, users may find that a bigger vacuum is needed for deep cleaning applications such as carpeting and mattresses. The unit is surprisingly loud when ramped up to max power, but that is more of a complaint against vacuum cleaners in general than it is a specific issue with the Dyson V6.
The V6 is also only going to last for around 20 minutes of solid vacuuming between charges, which should be fine if you are using it for sections of your home, or for cleaning a small car or truck.
Should you buy it?
This is a good choice for the average user, depending on how much cleaning and vacuuming you do around the house or office. If you have a really big area that needs regular vacuuming, especially if it is carpeting, then you should consider a bigger mains powered vacuum cleaner. The Dyson V6 is great for quick cleans that don’t need an awful lot of power. Overall this is a great vacuum for smaller areas where a power cord cannot reach.
