Features & Design: 4/5 ● Performance: 4/5 ● Value: 4/5 ● Speed 4/5
DJI have been the king of drones for a very long time, and the Mavic 2 Zoom follows this pattern beautifully. It is a drone that can stay up for 30 minutes and can hit speeds over 40MPH. It has auto sensing and auto pilot, and a fantastic camera that stays in focus in the air, and it uses OcuSync 2.0 so that operators can view video in full 1080p.
Perhaps the only real drawbacks to this camera are the ones that come as a result of the success of previous models that DJI has come out with. A victim of its own success, the Mavic 2 Zoom only out does previous models in small areas. The camera is not interchangeable, which is a drawback as well.
Is it for you?
This is a compact and very fast drone that has full 1080p video with auto avoidance and autopilot built in. If you need a fast drone with great video quality and decent air time, then this is a great choice. DJI are world leaders in drone technology, and their experience really shines through.
Meet the DJI Mavic 2 Zoom
As is the case with most quadcopters like this one, there are inherent benefits that come baked into the platform. The controller synchronizes with your smartphone and has an area that clips the phone in, giving you a fantastic screen to view your flight through.
What we like
The solid construction and lightweight materials make this drone a real winner. It has been designed with aesthetics and functionality in mind, and it manages to blend these two aspects beautifully. The folding size is really compact, which secures the sensitive rotors in place, preventing damage while in transit.
The Mavic’s software is incredibly accurate, which means that the drone does not drift, overshoot or veer off course. The controls do not feel mushy or loose, but are crisp and responsive. This makes manual flight a real joy to undertake, which is what DJI is famous for.
The collision avoidance is where this drone elevates itself to the next level over some of its competitors, which means when the drone is automatically following you it can avoid obstacles such as trees, street signs, buildings and people. This makes your outdoor activities that much easier to film.
What we don’t like
Perhaps the only drawbacks that this unit possesses are in the camera department. The camera is not modular, and cannot be changed out for anything different. This particular model of drone is not really marketed as being multiplatform enabled, so this shouldn’t really come as too much of a surprise to most people.
Other than the camera issues, the other problem that this unit has is that it finds itself in the middle of the road in terms of product line placement. What saves it is the fact that the DJI Mavic 2 Zoom has great zooming capabilities, as the name rightfully suggests.
Should you buy it?
This is a great drone to use if you are into action sports or any other outdoor activities. It can give you breath taking footage at full 1080p and can stay in the air as long as you need it to in 30 minutes or so.
