Features & Design: 4/5 ● Performance: 4/5 ● Value: 4/5 ● Speed 4/5
The Mavic 2 Pro features a Hasselblad L1D-20c camera that gives this particular model its trademark picture clarity. It has an adjustable aperture, f/2.8 – f/11, a 10-bit Dlog-M colour profile, 10-bit HDR video. It has a range of over 8km and the video is transmitted at 1080p. The unit can stay up in the air for 31 minutes. Like other DJI Mavics in this range, the Pro 2 comes with obstacle avoidance.
Some people have complained that this particular drone does not shoot in 4K, but for users that are looking for higher resolutions there are other options available on the market. This unit has a lot in common with with the DJI Mavic Zoom 2, the only difference being that this model does not have any camera zoom capabilities.
Is it for you?
If you are looking for a drone that can stay in the air for 30 minutes, has a range of 8km, and can film in full 1080p resolutions. The Mavic Pro 2 can fold up neatly and compact, so that it can be stored and carried with ease, while keeping it protected and safe.
Meet the DJI Mavic 2 Pro
As is the case with most quadcopters instability and level filming platforms come as a standard feature. As is the case with the Mavic Zoom 2, the controller synchronizes with your smartphone and has an area that clips the phone in, giving you a highly useable screen to view your flight through.
What we like
You can fly this drone in 3 different modes. There is a dedicated controller mode, which is for experienced users that wish to fly this unit without any interference from the automated control systems. The second way is through a smartphone that is connected via a remote controller while using a DJI Go 4 app.
The controller distance is also really good, with the drone able to be controlled from 8km away, which should be more than enough for most users that wish to fly the unit. The DJI Mavic Pro 2 operates in both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz frequencies.
The obstacle sensor has gotten a lot better as well, so you can take the drone out into public when you feel like filming yourself cycling, running, swimming or surfing. This will give you some stunning aerial shots that look great in 1080p.
What we don’t like
The first thing to worry about with this model is that the camera has no zoom functionality. This shouldn’t come as a surprise to most DJI Mavic fans because there is a model that does have zoom: the aptly named DJI Mavic 2 Zoom.
There are not many features that differentiate this model from previous ones in the DJI stable. Battery technology has come a long way over the years, but users would probably be happier with longer flying times in drones in general, so this doesn’t necessarily reflect poorly on the DJI Mavic 2 Pro.
Should you buy it?
If you enjoy filming gorgeous aerial scenes like action sports or beautiful natural scenes, then this is a great option The fact that this drone can film in 1080p from 8km away makes this a drone that has all the range that you could possibly need for personal use.
