Canon EOS 5DS Review
The Canon EOS 5DS is an expected sequel to the 5D MKIII, a well-known model adored by many photographers. Nevertheless, this is not a comprehensive replacement, and it is also not necessarily a superior performer.
As an alternative, this camera boasts a precise focus. Its unbelievably high-resolution sensor is more advanced than those found in most of the other presently available cameras hence it's able to effortlessly produce an unbelievable amount of detail, particularly when set-up or natural lighting ISO settings are required.
Design and Features
In line with the notion that the 5DS is not the camera that will drive the 5D MKIII out of the market, the EOS 5DS has a very similar build when compared with the MKIII. It is finished using a magnesium alloy that provides solid weather covering.
The handling and look are all amazingly familiar. Canon has only made one or two little changes to the 5DS to ensure that nobody ends up disappointed. For instance, there is a USB 3.0 opening, absent from the 5D MKIII. That will certainly be useful while transferring the larger files that the 50.6-megapixel device creates.
Screen and Performance
Apart from the new sensor, the 5DS incorporates a few of the finest features in Canon’s other superior DSLRs. For instance, it utilizes dual DIGIC 6 processors similar to the super-fast Canon 1D X 'sport shooting' camera.
Undeniably, because of the large volume of data that needs to be handled in the high quality pictures, this camera won't give you anything that can match the speed that you will get from the 1D X. You can however take pictures at 5fps, a bit slower than 5D MKIII’s 6fps, but enough for most applications. Although you may find that unacceptable given that MKIII is older, the 5DS does compensate when it comes to a number of other features.
There is not likely to be a considerable performance upsurge from the 5D MKIII, however the shutter device has been upgraded: the shutter sounded a little bit more silent than the one found in the 5D MKIII’s. It isn’t all about sound, however, but as well the reduction of any possibility of distortion caused through the mirror's shift.
Other small aspects worth a mention include the fact that the 5DS boasts a permanent 3-inch 1,040k dot monitor and – like almost every other camera at the moment – it also provides video shooting that offers a 1080p resolution, but no 4K.
The Canon EOS 5DS does not hit the reset switch on the company's full-frame series. It is a high-quality model for detail-oriented and qualified photographers who do not require vital speed or best low-light suppleness. Nevertheless, being among the cameras that will lay new principles in pure detail amongst full-frame cameras, many people are hungry for more of the Canon EOS 5DS.
