Brother TN-420 Review
There is a highly competitive market when it comes to printing toners. Brother TN-420 is a worthy candidate in its class. The quality offered by TN-420 is also commendable compared to other toners in its price category. It utilizes a wireless monochrome toner, Ethernet network for interfaces and has a built-in color calibration technique. This provides the necessary quality and prints up to 40 pages per minute.
The main advantage behind buying an official cartridge for Brother or any other printer manufacturers is, of course, the increased yield and page quality you are going to get for an increased price. Its easy and practical installation is also a significant advantage over alternative cartridge models (non-EOM pieces that will require retrofitting) or cartridge refilling – a popular solution, but one that can also render your toner and printer useless by damaging it beyond repair. Brother TN-420 Yields up to 1,200 according to the manufacturer, but that number is obviously a reference for when under fully optimal condition. In reality, the full cartridge will probably print out a couple hundred pages less than what has been advertised. However, these pages will be of the best quality the printer can get and may really give a professional feel to the legal documents, training material and other in-house paperwork you are printing.
A common issue with Brother toner, as widely reported by users, is that after a couple hundreds of pages the printer will start flashing the toner light and won’t print documents anymore. At first, it may seem as though your ink has run out much sooner than expected (which obviously gets many users rightly mad). However, the cartridge really hasn’t run out of ink and this issue can be remedied by resetting the out-of-toner condition. To do this, you have to press the “Go” (or “Start”, depending on the printer model) seven times in a row to force the printer to make a test print to see if it’s really out of toner. From then on, you will probably be good until the toner actually runs out of ink much later. Obviously, the fact that users have found this solution doesn’t mean that this is not a bothersome issue, especially considering that you are running official products together by the same manufacturer. In the end, there are definite advantages and disadvantages to both original cartridges such as Brother TN-420 and ink refills or alternative pieces. Keep in mind, though, that these are mostly cost-related – so if you’re looking for the best possible quality and reliability, going for an original cartridge is definitely the best solution.
