Blue Microphones Yeti Pro Review

The Blue Microphones Yeti Pro is a USB microphone designed to make it as easy as possible to get great quality recordings on your computer without having to invest in complicated sound cards with mic inputs - just plug in and play. However, it packs in much more than a just a USB output - it has an XLR output, you can switch pickup patterns, and there are mute and gain controls. It also provides ultra high-quality 24-bit/192KHz digital sampling. This isn't just a mic, it's a mini recording studio. Weighing in at more than 3 pounds, the Yeti Pro is a beast of a microphone. It's good-looking and solid. The foot-tall microphone consists of two parts: the stand and the actual mic. The stand is a 7-inch-tall piece of nearly solid steel, weighted to keep the mic from tipping over, and featuring a very large, adjustable axle upon which the mic can pivot up and down. The microphone itself is a fat, 7.5-inch-long, bullet-shaped hulk with a silver body and a chrome tip, covered in three dials and a Mute button and featuring USB and 3.5mm jacks on the bottom, along with a screw-mount for use when the mic is off the stand. This microphone not only looks good, but it's great for recording musical instruments, voice-overs, vocals or even podcasts. The Yeti Pro microphone is a multi patterned USB microphone that combines a three capsule feature and offers four different pattern settings. The triple capsule easily allows you to choose from different patterns that include cardioid, bidirectional and omnidirectional, allowing users many different recording options that would usually require the usage of several microphones. The analog to digital converter sends the audio directly into your computer and has a built-in headphone amplifier which has controls for volume, pattern choice, immediate mute, and microphone gain. There are no drivers to install, simply plug the Yeti Pro microphone into your PC or Mac's USB port, load up your favorite recording software, and record. When it comes to performance, the Yeti Pro has plenty to brag about. For starters, this is the first microphone or audio input device to receive the coveted THX certification. The certification involves a multitude of factors, including tests for frequency response and signal-to-noise ratio, and proof of performance consistency across multiple product batches. In other words, the Yeti had to sound good and have a reasonable chance of sounding good for every user. The Yeti Pro's three-capsule, multipattern microphone design is another first for the USB microphone world. The three 14mm mic capsules are arranged in a slightly offset, triangular layout, affording four different recording patterns, including stereo-which is a rare find for a relatively large capsule microphone like this. Of course, the microphone does have it's cons, though minimal. At 12 inches tall and 3 1/2 pounds, it is quite large in size, making it rather difficult to carry, and not very portable. One other con is its lack of a protective cover, but it is rather durable and will not get damaged very easily. It also seems to have a slight issue of handling noise when it's connected to a regular mic stand, and doesn't come with a shock mount. The condenser capsules should have been shock mounted on the inside., with it's jiggly plastic knobs. should probably get a shock mount too. Overall, The Blue Microphone Yeti Pro is definitely a bit pricey for hobbyists, but if you do more than just record some voice into a computer. If you need the versatility of a true dual-system microphone, it's unsurpassed. For true-to-life recording, you won't find a better USB microphone on the market.
