Apple Watch Sport 38mm Review
Living in this ‘Smart’ world you would expect Apple to come up with a really nice idea of a smart watch. The guys using Samsungs are already sorted with the Samsung Galaxy gear which was released in 2014. Although Samsung started this war, we already know very well that Apple always tries to outsmart their rivals. It was inevitable for an Apple smartwatch to be released regardless of the time. In 2015, Apple will be releasing its Apple watch which comes with two special versions, the Apple watch sport and the Apple watch Edition. The Apple watch Edition will be specifically created for the higher end market while the Apple watch sport is designed for the regular apple lovers. Let’s have a look at the Apple watch sport and see whether it’s worth its salt.
As the online war continues on the exact price tag for the upcoming smart watch, I took some time to look at some of the features that would make the Apple watch sport a better smart watch than what we already have. Since both smart watches (Apple watch sports and Samsung Galaxy Gear) were meant for sports enthusiasts, we might learn a lot on the features that are suitable for sportsmen. Although Apple might not have created the perfect smart watch for professional athletes as they suggest, it can work well with someone ready to start on his or her fitness journey. Here are some things that can go a long way for a fitness enthusiast:
The Apple watch sport uses the iOS software and this means that it’s easier to find better fitness apps on the Apple Store than on any other platform. Even with the numerous apps available, Apple already have Health which brings together all of your readings and measurements so you can see them in a single view. The Nike+ app is a useful one for fitness enthusiasts and it seems Apple will also bring this on board for a better experience. Through its mobile connectivity feature, it’s able to measure your runs and give you real time facebook feedback.
The Apple watch sport boasts of an activity app that monitors your heart rate and suggests your next activity for a healthier lifestyle. It gets your heart rate data from the accelerometer and calculates 3 key metrics which are stand, move and exercise. There is a stand ring which monitors your standing time. The app recommends standing one minute per hour in 12hrs a day. The exercise ring ensures that you have at least moved for 30 minutes in a day. Finally, there is a move ring which is basically your calorie target per day. It uses historical data to give you daily targets for a healthier lifestyle. A very good app for people who want to shed a few pounds.
The Apple watch sport has numerous features seen in the Samsung Galaxy Gear and so if you have already used one, the experience isn’t very different. The watch however comes with a few setbacks. Unlike the Samsung galaxy gear, the Apple watch does not have in built GPS so you need to have your iPhone next to you when exercising. Another setback is the fact that it doesn’t connect to your iPad unlike the Galaxy Gear. Apple also never mentioned a water resistant feature which is very important for an outdoor fitness enthusiast. All in all, this is great smart watch for people looking forward to improving on their training but it’s still below per for professional athletes.
