The 3-Minute Apple Watch Series 3 Review
Third Time’s The Charm?
By Graeme Messina | March 28, 2018
Features & Design: 4.5/5 ● Performance: 4/5 ● Value: 4/5 ● Battery: 3.5/5
The third series of the Apple Watch is a quicker device than its predecessors, and has enhanced exercise tracking and a much brighter display. This release also features LTE, so you can connect without your watch to the internet even when your phone is at home.
The LTE tends to drain the battery somewhat, so use it sparingly if you hope to have your watch last longer. Watch apps specific to this device still need to be developed as there aren’t too many available at present.
Is it for you?
If you are an Apple fan, need to have access to the internet via your watch, and wish to track your fitness levels, then this is a great watch.
Meet the Apple Watch Series 3
The Apple Watch Series 3 is a well-made product, and it fits in very well with Apple’s general aesthetic and design. Some Apple Watch Series 3 units come equipped with LTE, which will allow you to connect to the internet. GPS is available as well, giving you maps and fitness apps that will help you while out jogging, walking, or even swimming. The fitness features on the watch also work very well, and the pricing on the GPS only version is favourably comparable to the Series 2 Apple Watch. Performance is greatly improved over its predecessors as well, so expect a spry and responsive watch.
What we like
The refinements that have been going into the Apple Watch Series has resulted in a very solid example of what a smart watch should be. We have GPS, LTE (depending on the model that you purchase, it is an extra feature), fitness tracking and much more.
As a watch, the Apple Watch Series 3 is made very well, is solid and is build properly and with Apple’s usual quality and style. Phone calls can be taken via the watch, but this causes considerable battery drain.
All of these are great features from Apple, so if you already own Apple products like the iPhone or iPad, then you will most likely enjoy the overall menu and interface.
What we don’t like
The battery needs a bit of work if you are going to be using the LTE, GPS and Bluetooth, as you will not get a full day of use out of the watch if you are running all 3 concurrently.
App support also needs a bit of work, as there are not too many specialized apps for the Apple Watch, but this is changing slowly but surely. Pricing is in line with other smart watches from different manufacturers, but this class of device is still relatively expensive.
Should you buy it?
Recommending this watch to non-Apple users is probably not going to make much sense, so Apple fans would probably be the most suitable beneficiaries of such a device. If you are looking for a fitness tracking watch that is compatible with your Apple iPhone, can make and receive calls, text messages and guide you via GPS and can connect straight to the internet via the built in LTE functionality if your model supports it.
