Acuvue 2 Review
Since its release in 1999, Acuvue 2 has remained one of the best selling contact lenses in the market. It comes as no surprise, because aside from its eyesight corrective function, it also offers comfort, ease of use and high value for money.
First time contact lens users usually complain of headaches and eye irritation while adjusting to the newly installed eyewear. However, Acuvue 2 reduces the effects of this adjustment period as it approximates the eyes’ shape and surface. It has an ultra-thin film, an optional base curve of 8.3 and 8.7mm and a fixed diameter of 14mm that easily fits the eyes’ natural features.
Its main component, Hydrogel (etafilcon A) also allows 88% of oxygen to the eyes to prevent irritation while offering corrective solution to near- or farsightedness with prescriptions ranging from -12.00 to +8.00. Also, if used with other anti-UV eyewear, Acuvue 2 can also help in minimizing the risk of developing cataract. It blocks 88% of harmful UV-A and 99% of UV-B radiation from reaching the cornea.
Acuvue 2 also has the answer to the age-old problem of losing contact lenses. Its light blue tint makes it easy to distinguish from most surfaces yet still transparent enough to show your eyes’ natural color. Acuvue 2 contacts have decent lifespans, too; with proper care, it can last an average of 2 weeks with daily use.
Note that Acuvue 2’s breathability and corrective power range is not a quantum leap in contact lens technology. Other brands even claim to keep the eye surface moisturized. But the fact that it offers tried-and-tested comfort for a reasonable price is the reason why those who have experienced using other brands have switched back to using Acuvue 2. With all these in mind, first-time contact lens users should definitely put Acuvue 2 on top of their list.
