The best cheap phones we love in 2018 (for any budget)

If you’re looking for a high-quality phone at a wallet-friendly price, there are plenty of options open to you! You don’t have to have a huge budget to find impressive features. In this article, we’re taking a closer look at five of the best inexpensive phones on the market in 2018.

Top 5 Finalists of Budget Smartphones:

  1. Motorola Moto G5S Plus
  2. LG G6
  3. Sony Xperia XA1
  4. Xiaomi Mi A1
  5. Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime

1. Motorola Moto G5S Plus

Motorola Moto G5S Plus

The sheer number of cutting-edge features packed into a phone with such a tiny price tag is astonishing. Its elegant, full-metal shell contains a 1080p 5.5in screen and fingerprint access. The dual rear camera takes crystal-clear images in 13MP and video in 4K, while the front-facing camera will provide selfies in 8MP. The G5S charges quickly and has a long battery life, far more impressive than pricy counterparts.

Note that there have been some issues with camera shutter lag, and occasionally apps will crash after substantial use. That said, it remains an excellent package at an unbelievable price.

2. LG G6

LG G6

If you’re looking for a cheap smartphone that will survive the rough and tumble of everyday life, LG have delivered just the right thing! The G6 is sturdy and resilient, thanks to its sealed body and waterproof shell.

The LCD HD screen is sharp and clear, and the corners are curved to blend seamlessly into the design of the body. 13MP dual cameras in the back deliver great quality photos, although this doesn’t represent a significant jump in spec from the G5.

If you prefer to have a removable battery, be aware that this feature is missing from the G6, as part of the drive for waterproofing.

3. Sony Xperia XA1

Sony Xperia XA1

As you would expect from a Sony, this phone’s strength is in its camera setup. The rear camera has an impressive 23MP sensor, and you’ll be snapping beautiful selfies in 8MP. This is especially impressive when taking the price point into account.

There are some issues, however. The screen resolution is just 720p, and a fingerprint scanner, which most smartphone users have become accustomed to, is missing. Still, if you prioritize photography, it’s a solid choice!

4. Xiaomi Mi A1

Xiaomi Mi A1

Another metal unibody budget smartphone, the Xiaomi Mi A1 is elegant, with a superb full-HD 5.5in display. Its dual 12MP back camera takes wonderful shots, particularly with the telephoto setting. The battery lasts all day, and there’s a fingerprint scanner for quick access.

As impressive as the back camera is, the front-facing camera delivers just 5MP. Not a huge deal breaker, but there is better out there at a similar price.

5. Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime

Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime

Enjoy the Galaxy experience, but not the cost? Samsung can still deliver! The J7 packs a punch at a very reasonable price point. Its full-HD Super AMOLED screen is bright and detailed, and its fingerprint scanner is well-placed and responsive.

There are 13MP cameras front and back, so you can grab a decent shot at every angle. It’s not as impressive as the camera setup of the S or Note ranges, but the J7 is nowhere near as expensive.
