HP IPAQ 4240 - 06/21/2007 By Anonym

The positive of the IPAQ 4240 is that it does turn on; this is convenient as you shall want to turn it off and keep it off. A PDA that runs around $400.00 should do certain things. It should be able to seamlessly synch with one's desktop. The 4240 is unable to do this. Microsoft Office, on your desktop, will recognize items that one placed into Notes on your IPAQ. It cannot print them thought. HP advertises that the 4240 will print... in an alternate universe it might but it won't print in this universe. The reason, HP failed to include drivers and software to allow printing from the device. Thus, attorneys, doctors and others who need a hard copy, paper, will have no use for this product.
It does have wifi, but the browser will make it almost an impossibility to access AOL, MSN and many other sights. My experience with my 4240 was that I could read one letter on AOL, then the PDA would kick me off, and it would take some minutes to go through the PDA's steps to sign back onto AOL. Writing and sending an e-mail was an equal adventure on the IPAQ, something akin to a root canal with no novacaine.
HP support for the product is dismal. My experience was that many in technical support at HP had no idea what the 4240 was. The printed and online documentaion for the product is vague and unhelpful. Do not try to contact Microsoft for support on the Windows Mobile products on the 4240; Microsoft told me that I could get support if I was willing to pay for it! Unless you enjoy sticking needles in your eye, do not even try HP support.
HP introduced a product that cannot perform as advertised. Palm and other companies actually manuacture PDA's that work. Unless you have hundreds of bucks to throw away, do not even think about purchasing the IPAQ; it will disappoint and frustarte you.

Dont know what this other guy is on about - 09/13/2007 By Anonym

my 4240 is awesome. allows me to print notes, easily sync with my computer. one of the most easy to use web browser set ups ive ever had on a pda. i think it is one of the best pdas all round ive ever had. so despite the previous comment i thoroughly love this pda.
