Yamaha YHT-S401

Yamaha YHT-S401 Review

  • 4.0 / 5
    • The good:
good control and precision, well built, weighty bass
    • The bad:
      compressed treble, thin vocals

Yamaha has been producing quite a number of audio visual products such as speakers for quite a long period of time. A good example is the Yamaha YHT-S400 speakers which are quite popular in the markets.

Well, a replacement of this has now been produced and that is the Yamaha YHT-S401. The first impression that the Yamaha YHT-S401 gives is good as the speakers look elegant in design and well built. The Yamaha YHT-S401 consists of front speakers which are on the left, right and centre. All these speakers are housed in a slim bar and hence it makes it easy to house the speakers probably with your flat screen TV set. There is also the main unit which consists of the subwoofer, together with the receivers and controls.

This means that you would probably need an equipment rack below your television set in case you want to store this system together with your television set. Unlike other speakers, the main unit of the Yamaha YHT-S401 has enough connections that will ensure you wouldn’t have to change cables once you have changed connections. The system detects and switches automatically once you have changed the source. This was really impressive as it reduces all the tedious work of changing cables now and then.

Other notable things in this system include the USB port that works well with any audio device that you can plug into the USB port. There weren’t any problems with compatibility and hence it is good and easy to use. There is also the audio jack for plugging in other audio devices. The AM and FM tuners work well and easily connects to whatever frequency that you want. This system does not have problems with weak signals and really connects well producing clear sound. It wouldn’t go without noticing the authoritative sound especially the bass. Also, the speakers integrate well with the sub and the produces clear loud sound easily.

Although these speakers produce good surround and loud bass sound, it is noted that the vocals are thin and the higher the sound the more compressed and thin the vocals are. Generally the Yamaha YHT-S401 produces good sound. It produces clear weighty bass with good surround that would fill up the room. However, the vocals are very thin and thus spoil the general sound quality especially at higher magnitude. Otherwise it is not a bad unit to purchase for your home.
