The Sony Alpha NEX-5N is a silver digital camera kit with f/18-55 mm lens. Its lens is equipped with many features like interchangeability of the lens, superb video, LCD that can be tilted, EVF port and a touchscreen. The alpha NEX-5N is a carry-around camera due to its small size. It is well-built with magnesium alloy finish, solid and smooth. It is capable of producing really first-rate photos. It isn’t noisy and the colors are detailed enough, with good saturation and brightness. However, there is somewhat a needed improvement on the clarity and brilliance. The image stabilizer helps a lot. The HD video which can do 60 frames per second looks really impressive with its lively colors and smoothness. The range is head and shoulder above many of Sony cameras of the same price level. Even in places with less light, the video performs above par. Autofocusing is unquestionably fast, effortless and quiet. However, when the switches are kind of loose, they make some unusual noise and the way they are positioned on the camera these switches are very likely to be hit by the fingers every time you try to hold the device. The location of the movie button is not ideal. The LCD which can be tilted is a divergence from the normal style; on the other hand, there are angles that are hard to position due to the sunlight and it is quite challenging to view under the sun. The touch screen which is 2.6 inches seems not big enough for touching the menu with a long array of options and it is not that responsive, sometimes you need to touch it many times before it responds. The dial moves fast which results to missing the desired setting and due to its many options which are all within the menus, getting into one of them takes some time and a lot of patience. The slim body of Alpha NEX-5N with 1.5 inches depth doesn’t support the hand in holding it comfortably. The thumb has no enough space to hold the camera properly even with the help of the left hand. It is definitely hard to hold with one hand. Especially when you attach the lens, it becomes a little out of balance. The zoom lens is kind of big and it would have been better if it is smaller and lighter. Using the Alpha NEX-5N in low-lighted places is satisfactory to some and excellent for others. The lens is slow to focus in low light. Daylight shooting is the Alpha NEX-5N’s forte. The anti-motion blur mode suits the low light photo shooting at high ISO. Moreover, the Alpha NEX-5N can do a lot of snap shooting. Its defocus feature helps set the appropriate aperture by itself for a blurry or razor-sharp backdrop. Overall, the Sony Alpha NEX-5N has a lot of latest features that will suit the needs of a photo shooter. It is so versatile and can be a carry-around camera that is very convenient to bring wherever possible. It is affordable and really an all-around cam. It has its weaknesses and its strengths, but the strengths overshadow the weaknesses. It is worth the money.
