Samsung Galaxy Gio Review

  • 4.0 / 5
    • The good:
Economical, Decent mobile browsing, Friendly UI, Good processor
    • The bad:
No dedicated camera key, Phone camera has a lot to improve on
The Samsung Galaxy Gio is good enough for an Android phone. It offers average features but it is understandable since it is highly economical for its kind. It is surely not for camera and high resolution screen enthusiasts but for those who are just looking for a midrange phone, Samsung Galaxy Gio would pass as one of the best choices. Running on Android 2.2 Froyo and also powered by the Samsung TouchWiz user interface, the handheld has a fast processor as compared to its rival units. The screen, although lacking in size, offers customizations of up to seven windows. Widgets are easy to manage while all kinds of applications are available on the market. Samsung Apps also provide free ones. The phone also deserves commending for an excellent notification area. Regular as it may seem to be, Samsung Galaxy Gio has a highly functional phonebook with an amazing storage capacity. Users are given the option to group all their contacts from phone, SIM, and Google in one place. Audio quality and speaker function are also considerably good enough. Messaging on the other hand gives you the basics. Switching for the usual SMS to MMS and attaching multimedia content are hassle-free. The phone is packed with a 3.2 autofocus megapixel camera with nice options such as face detection and geotagging. There is no flash capability however. There is no dedicated camera shutter key but the phone’s virtual button as an alternative is manageable. Offering a QVGA at 15fps video capability, you could not expect much from the phone. Samsung Galaxy Gio offers a decent mobile browsing experience and good connectivity options. With quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, dual-band HSPA, Wi-Fi and Buetooth v2.1 capabilities, it is data transfer- friendly. The phone’s internal memory is limited but there is a microSD slot to compensate for it. The browser is minimalist in design like most Android browsers. Since the screen is not that big for mobile browsing, the phone makes zooming really easy by offering as much as three options.
