QNAP TS-212 Review
For a long time in the past NAS devices have not really been fully commercialised in the sense that they have not been made to compete with the peers in terms of business capabilities.
Most of the previous NAS devices have been designed for ease of use as well as user friendly. They have not been the best option when it comes to business and high performance activities as such. Nonetheless, all the above is now history with the launch and production of the QNAP TS-212. The QNAP TS-212 Turbo NAS is more efficient to use and high performing than any other device. The gadget is also very secure and would be the best option if you want to share very sensitive files over the network.
This network storage device competes favourably with its peers and would be one of the best that you can purchase. First of all, let us look at the design of the QNAP TS-212. This device is beautifully designed and in fact the best designed in terms of NAS gadgets. It is matte black as well as bone-white housing that is made of hard plastic in order to provide adequate protection from external forces. There is also a brushed metal strip at the front part that looks absolutely amazing. This metal strip is the one that supports the power button, some small beautiful LEDs, a one touch copy button as well as a USB 2.0 port. When you look at the design you would definitely be impressed as this is one of the best designed network storage devices. Definitely this gadget would impress you on first sight.
When it comes to the internal features and the performance aspects you can be sure not to be disappointed again. This is because inside this network storage device we have a Marvell 6281 1.2GHz processor which is quite efficient for a network storage server. Apart from this efficient processor, the device is also complimented with a 256MB DDRII RAM as well as 16GB of flash memory. With all these superior components, the device can be able to hold up to two 3.5inch SATA drives and is also chip diskless. Not many network storage devices have such features and capabilities such as those of the QNAP TS-212. This is clear indication that performance wise, you should expect the best out of the QNAP TS-212. Additional features of the QNAP TS-212 include two more USB 2.0 ports at the rear panel.
There is also a Gigabit Ethernet port next to the USB ports at the rear panel. In order to protect this device against theft, NAS has provided a K-lock security slot at the rear panel to physically protect the device from any theft. This device is small in size and also weighs only a little bit more than two pounds but very efficient in performance. Nonetheless, one challenge that we encountered while trying to use the QNAP TS-212 is the installation process. This device does not come with disks and thus the first major task will be to install the hard disk drives. This will be easy if you have installed a hard disk in a computer, but if not, then you will experience some challenges. The next process will then be to configure the device which is also quite simple since you just use a CD which comes with the device.
