The Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ30 is claimed to be the best compact super-zoom camera with 14 megapixel CMOS sensor. Compared to TZ20, TZ30 is definitely a step-up. Zooming range increased that reaches up to 480mm. With a wide angle Leica lens, landscape and group shots can never be a challenge. It is a surprising feature for a slender pocket camera that weighs 186 grams. Shots with bright light have pleasant sharpness and details. However, in low-lighted areas, images are somewhat noisy and sprinkled with blemishes. This image quality seems difficult to cope up with some of the Canon’s compact cameras. Images if printed at full size have some unpleasant aberrations; nevertheless, not many people would have the full size print. The GPS feature of TZ30 delivers well. Although this is battery draining and most of the pictures don’t have the right tags, still this feature is a nice addition and somewhat better than other camera’s GPS. The battery life is less than anticipated. With this issue, an extra battery should be available. Charging the camera with the battery inside is not that comfortable. Others just procure a separate charger. The GPS works even when the camera is not being used and eats a lot of energy. Disablement of the GPS will surely lengthen the battery life. The power switch on and off is extremely sensitive that it almost always stays “on” even after you switched it “off”. The battery is not the standard. It is a propriety battery which means there is a need to buy an extra one and it is not readily available anywhere. Unlike the ordinary batteries which are rechargeable or non-rechargeable but are almost everywhere and are sold at a cheaper price. The 3-inch touch screen is a plus, but there is no viewfinder. The buttons are all working well. For video recording, the TX30 comes with nice setting options. With full 1080p video at 60 frames per second, videoing will surely become a hobby. Focusing while zooming does not work well. It somewhat takes time to focus. Portability makes the Lumix DMC-TZ30 a walk-around camera coupled with the quality images that it produces. On the other hand, it couldn’t be considered as an all-around camera since sports photography seems beyond its features. Others complain about this issue, while there are luckier ones who can successfully shoot moving objects. This cam doesn’t come with an instruction manual that maybe defeating the idea of fully informing the user of its potential. Detailed instruction manual can be downloaded but it has around 200 pages. Images don’t need fixing. Photoshop is less visited with the use of the TZ30. Colors are natural-looking and don’t need any editing at all. This camera is beginner-friendly. The intelligent automatic mode does the trick. The menu requires deeper photography knowledge and some patience. This camera doesn’t come with a memory card or a camera case. In summary, the Panasonic Lumix Dmc TZ30 is an equipped with very nice features and are portable, affordable and easy to use. It is worth every penny.
